COLOR TV I feel the five television ads in yesterday's classified section (three in classification 68, two in classification 68-A) are incongruous with the things I have been reading about the industry.

I feel they should at least have hinted that they knew something out of the ordinary was going on. They didn't. It is my contention that every one who so much as has a tele vision-owning neighbor knows of the recent birth of color tele vision, amid screams suggesting great pain. Most of the printed screams 1 have seen have been those of the Radio Corporation of America. I don't know whether this is be cause R.C.A.

is among the biggest of the companies in pain or whether its pain is the greatest. The Columbia Broadcasting System, whose color television system was adjudged the mostest for the money yet by the Federal Communications System, has add ed defiant mothering sounds to the tumult. Sunday, normally a day of rest, was filled with the cries of the combatants. Walter A. Buck, vice president in charge of the R.CA.-Victor division of the Radio Corporation of America, in letters to the company's distrib utors, called the C.B.S.

system "incompatible" and "degraded." Frank Stanton, C.B.S. president, in a p.m. broadcast over nis network, admitted the incompatibility but maintained his color pictures were far superior to black and white and that black and white pictures adapted from his color were superior to present black and white pictures. In other words, his system is good, he says. Mr.

Stanton, perhaps with an eye to his Hooper rating, trans-scribed the address and rebroad-cast it at 11:15 p.m. The item that the disputants can agree on is a tube. C.B.S has a mechanical system in which a three-color wheel whirls in front of your black and white tube. R.C.A. is working on a three-color electronic tube which will receive the three television colors, red, blue and green, the same way the black and white tube receives its picture.

However it isn't perfected. According to C.B.S. the F.C.C. believes the perfection of the tube is not in sight. R.C.A., of course, maintains the perfection is not far off.

R.C.A. says the F.C.C. should have waited for the tube because, with the C.B.S. incompatible system, set owners will have to spend up to $200 to convert for color. C.B.S.

says the public should have color television during the time it takes to perfect the tube and that the C.B.S. system can use the tube when it is perfected. These are the arguments, stripped of elaborations, that have been heard thus far. Meanwhile Surrogate Matters Wills probated and letters of administration issued by Surrogate Samuel V. Convery Include: William H.

Hodges Mrs. Ella Hodges, of 10 North Second avenue. Highland Park, was named executrix and sole legatee of the estate left by her husband, William who died October 2. The will, dated May 29, 1945, was witnessed by Andrew Anderson and James Ferrara. Babe Fillmore Fillmore, who died September IS at Raritan township, bequeathed $1 to her husband, Kelly, and the remainder to Charles P.

Price, of that place. Albert T. Holl was named executor. He and William V. Herer witnessed the will August 22.

Alex Donnelly Miss Elizabeth Donnelly, of Wood- bridge, was named executrix and sole legatee of the estate left by her father. Alex. He died October 4 at that place. The will was executed January 22, 1948, in the presence of Leon McElroy and Dorothy H. Almasl.

Edith A. Dunham Mary Gamble, of 26 Throop avenue will administer the $350 estate of her aunt Edith A. Dunham. She died Sep tember 27 In this city. John J.

Vertetts The $2,000 estate of John 3. Vertetls who died Aumist 10 at Highland Park will be administered by his widow Marion of 142 North Tenth avenue. both parties are being solicitous of the public. Mr. Stanton says that if his color system hadn't been introduced, before long there would be 40,000,000 instead of 7,000,000 incompatible sets.

Mr. Buck in his letter remarked that the public "needs reassurance. We shall keep faith with the 8,000,000 American, families who have invested their money in bjack-and-white television sets." (Either Mr. Stanton forgot to carry one digit in his addition or Mr. Buck was over zealous in his.

However that point is small.) Frankly, both of these industrialists leave me skeptical. I won't say I don't think they want to give me color television. I'll say they want to give me color television when it is convenient for them. But if color television is ready now and if I want to pay for it knowing that later I ctn put an electronic tube into my set, if and when the tube arrives, I see no reason why I should have to listen to a flock of color television A .1 1 arguments wnen i tuuiu watching a flock of color tele vision shows instead. When the ring announcer says a fighter's eye is cut and his face smeared with blood, I want to view it in red.

When Milton Berle gets a lemon pie in the middle of his smile, I want to see every drop of that synthetic lemon or whatever it is they use to represent a lemon pie dripping off Mr. Berle's smile in yellow. There is one note of encourage- ment. The Associated Press yesterday afternoon reported that last minute buying of radio-tele vision shares lifted the stock market out of a minor slump. Perhaps someone anticipated this plea and I am writing for naught.

Perhaps the market got inside information on a color television boom. I'm in the mar ket for surprises. In the District Court of the United States lor me District of New Jersev. United States of America. Petitioner, vs.
