After four quick turnovers (two Temple interceptions and two Rutgers fumble recoveries), the Knights went 52 yards, 40 coming on a Jack LaPrane-to-Andrew Baker pass, for a touchdown. LaPrarie went over on a sneak from the one with 7:16 remaining in the game. Burns elected to go for the two-points to get the lead, rather than one for a tie. LaPrarie threw an Alley-Oop pass to Baker at the right side of the end zone but the big flanker, who caught five passes for 141 yards on the day, was just out of See SCARLET, page E9 By JOHN BRUNS Home News sports writer PISCATAWAY If Frank Burns was coaching his last football game at Rutgers, he and his players tried their darndest to send him out a winner.

The Scarlet Knights, who finished 3-8, failed to hold a 10-0 second-period lead, then bounced back to tie the game at 17-all late in the third period but were deprived of victory when an attempt for a two-point conversion midway in the final period failed. nr Vv -ay 3 Embattled Burns praised by players the expressions from among those fans. Chants of "Good-bye Frankie" were heard in the closing minutes and some banners were displayed.
