PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTIOr STATE OF NEW JERSEY DEPARTMENT OF STATE NOTICE OF A SPECIAL ELECTION In puiuance with the proviiioni of Chapter 323 of the Law. of 1927, ai amended by Chapter 1 of the Special Sataaaa Law. of 1927, entitled "An act to provide for tubmittinx amendment! to the Constitution of this State to ihe people thereof," which act was approved March 3 lit.

1927, which amendment was approved April 2 lit, 1927, notice is hereby given that on Tuesday, the 20th day of September, A. D. 1927, a Special Election will be held in the several election districts or precincts of this State, at such places as the clerks of the several townships, cities and municipalities of the State shall provide, to enable the electors qualified to vote for members of the Legislature to vote for or against certain proposed amendments having been agreed to by the sessions of the Legislature of New Jersey of 1926 and 1927, in pursuance with the provisions of article nine of the Constitution of said State. The said proposed amendments are contained in the form of ballot hereto annexed, which ballot has been provided for use at said special election in pursuance with the provisions of said Chapter 323 of the Laws of 1927, at amended by Chapter 1 of the Special Session Laws of 1927. Amend paragraph three, section one, Article IV, of the Constitution of the State of New-Jersey, to read as follows: 3. Members of the Senate and Ceneral As sembly shall be elected every second year beginning with the year one thousand nine hundred and twenty-eight, on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November; and the two houses shall meet separately in regular session on the second Tuesday in January next after the said day of election, at which time of meeting the legislative year shall commence; and at olher times the two houses may meet separately in special session upon the joint call of the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the Ceneral Assembly for the purpose of acting upon only such matters as are designated in the call.

Amend paragraphs one ind two of section two of Article IV, to read as follows: I. The Senate shall be composed of one Senator from each county in the State, elected by the legal voters of the counties, respectively, for four years; provided, however, the term of Senators elected in the year one thousand ine hundred and twenty-six shall be extended to four years from the commencement of their terms. The term of Senators elected in the year one thousand nine hundred and twenty-seven shall be extended to five years from the commencement of their terms. The Legislature may enact general laws under which municipalities, other than counties, may adopt zoning ordinances limiting and restricting to specify districts and regulating therein, buildings and structures, according to their construction, and the nature and extent of their use, and the exercise of such authority shall be deemed to be within the police power of the State.
