Teacher Lois Mencik, who has taught in Broward County schools for six years, acknowledged that she had been considering giving up teaching at the end of the year. But the case of Rachel Stivler's 10-day suspension from Cooper City High School and the ensuing commotion rushed the decision, she said. The 14-year-old student, a ninthgrader, was suspended Jan. 23 after she wrote an obscenity beside Ms. Mencik's name on an evaluation form for the teacher's math II skills class.
