Major improvement work was done on the city streets, the sewage system was updated, new school facilities were constructed and a major expansion was carried out at Hospital in The Pines.

Nail reported the completion of $80,000 in street improvements during the year with about 12 miles of roadway resurfaced and the installation of larger outfall sewer lines as well as a new sewage treatment plant valued at $380,000. The hospital was originally built at a cost of $500,000 but is now valued at more than a million dollars.

The hospital is a non-profit and community operated institution providing mercy care of first class status for residents of the Daingerfield and Lone Star area. The new courthouse is being constructed with the future in mind. It will be a one-story structure and will include foundation and support features which could permit the addition of a second story in the future if county growth of population and activity warrants. All the interior will have vinyl wall coverings to both enhance the appearance and provide the best fireproofing possible. Included in the new courthouse will be: offices and facilities for the Morris County Sheriffs Department including a modern radio room; Justice of the Peace Precinct No. 1 offices; Driver's Education Offices; Texas Department of Public Safety Offices; County Clerk's offices and vaults; Tax Assessor-Collector's offices and vault, County Treasurer's office; Social Security Section; County Judge's offices; Com DAINGERFIELD Morris County's almost century courthouse is to be replaced by a new half million dollar structure to be completed during the first half of 1972.

Although the current old courthouse was constructed nearly a century ago at the cost of $5,500, it would cost about the same price as the new courthouse is costing at the price of materials and labor today. Ground was broken for the project on July 19, 1971 by John Waddell Construction Co. of Longview, a general contractor. Completion date is expected to come during May of 1972. The new building will be composed of steel framing and brick interwalls with a precast stone exterior of four and six feet slabs to give the structure the present-day massive look which has become popular for public and private institutions of large size during the past five years.

The trend is away from colonial and other types of architecture to the plain, straight lines.
