He was a bus driver for 30 years, retiring in 1979. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church in Fords. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Ernest "Bob" Smithers and Richard Smithers. He is survived by his wife, Bernice (Hand) Smithers; a son, Jack Smithers and his wife, Linda of Branchburg; a daughter, Janice Nygard and her husband, Alan of Edison; three granddaughters, Sherry Daciuk of Metuchen, Tara Barry of Sayreville and Krista Nygard of Edison, and two great grandchildren, Jonathan and Emma Barry. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 9, at Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Fords, followed by a 10 a.m.

Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church, Fords. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude's Cemetery in Colonia. Visitation will be held 2 p.m.-4 p.m.

5, 2008, at Saint Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 85. Mr. Stavrianidis was born in Russia, and lived in Greece and Queens, N.Y., before moving to the Somerset area in 1979. He was a member of St.

George Greek Orthodox Church in Piscataway, and a member of the American Hellenic Educational Progression Association, Monroe Chapter 75. Mr. Stavrianidis was a supporter of Greek Letter and Education and, while living in Queens, he was one of the founders of the local Pontian Hellenic Association (Komninoi Association). OBITUARIES Mr. Stavrianidis was the founder and owner of Venus 7 Jewelers in Somerset.

He retired 10 years ago, but could often still be found at the store. Mr. Stavrianidis is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elena Thalassinidis Stavrianidis of Somerset; their children, Peter Stavrianidis and his wife, Maggie of Somerset, and Dorothy Fountoukidis and her husband, Tassos of Branchburg. He is also survived by a sister, Chrissoula Apostolidis of Greece, and his grandchildren, George, Jason and Constantine Stavrianidis of Somerset and Ilias Fountoukidis. Visitation will take place 6:30 p.m.-9 p.m.

on Friday, Aug. 8, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1101 River Road, Piscataway. The funeral will be held the following morning on at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 9, at the church.

She was born in Lansford, and lived in Carteret the past 52 years. She was a communicant of Holy Family R.C. Church, Carteret. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond J. Stelmack, who died in 1990; her parents, Joseph and Catherine Cisowski; three sisters, Sophia Zellin, Sister Constant, and Viola Badowski, and one brother, Joseph Cisowski.

She is survived by her daughter, Judith A. Wilson and her husband, Ronald S. Wilson; a son, Thomas J. Stelmack and his wife, JoAnne; two grandchildren, Luke and Angelica, and two sisters, Mary Grochowski and Anna Majewski. The funeral will be held 9 a.m.

Saturday at Synowiecki Funeral Home, 56 Carteret Carteret, followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass at Holy Family R.C. Church, Carteret. Interment will be at St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia.

Visiting hours will be 2 p.m.-4 p.m. and 7 p.m.-9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Members of Knights of Columbus Carey Council 1280 will pay their respects at 7:15 p.m. Friday.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Family Church Renovation Fund. CATHERINE WALCZAK AGE: 76 SOUTH AMBOY Catherine J. Walczak, beloved wife of the late Arthur J. Walczak, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at her home in South Amboy.

She was 76. Born in South River, she lived in South Amboy since 1955. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, South Amboy. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur J.

Walczak, in 2004. She is survived by a son and daughter-inlaw, Arthur and Anne Marie Walczak of South Amboy; granddaughters, Jennifer Jackson and Pemberton and Diana Marottoli of South Amboy; great-grandchildren, Emma and Antonio Marottoli and Andrew Jackson; sisters, Georgette Engelhardt of Sayreville and MaryAnn Graboski of South River; a brother, John Malkiewicz of Florida; beloved friend and sister-in-law, Irene Kowalski and her husband, Stanley; beloved friends, Dorothy and Robert Poger, and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Kurzawa Funeral Home, 338 Main South Amboy, followed by a 9 a.m. Mass at Sacred Heart R.C.
