Twenty three members of the Fairfield Police department-and the Special Police organization were awarded certificates last night for the completion of an eight week Civil Defense basic rescue', course-. 'The presentation was made in Grasmerc school by H. Meffor.d Runyon, CD director, who commended the men for their "zeal and interest." Police Chief James Kranyik also congratulated the recipients of the certificates.

The course, under the direction of Lieut. Thomas J. Len-non, included actual demonstration, of first aid rescue. stretcher lashing and handling, care and use of ladders and lift devices, basic fire fighting, and knot tying. Films also were shown.

Virgil Pastor, CD director for Shelton, was the chief instruclor. He was' assisted by Sgt.
