DORIS H.K. "DODO" LEE Doris H.K. "Dodo" Lee, 82, of Honolulu, passed away at Pohai Nani on July 17. She was a graduate of Sacred Hearts Academy and the former owner of The Seafood Basket in the Pearlridge Center. She was a member of the Chinese Catholic Club of Honolulu, the Lung Doo Benevolent Society and the Kwantung Lin Yi Hui of Honolulu.

She is survived by sisters, Hung Yung Young, Jennie (Archie) Chow, Gladys (Robert) Meier, Thelma and Betty (Fred) Chang and brothers Larry (Vicky) and Calvin and many nieces and nephews. Incorrect information published in an obituary yesterday. DEATHS ELSEWHERE David Blackwell, a preeminent mathematician and the first black scholar in the National Academy of Sciences, has died. He was 91. Blackwell died of natural causes at a hospital on July 8, University of California, Berkeley, officials said. Blackwell was the first tenured black professor at the campus, where he taught for nearly 35 years.

Blackwell was known as a problem-solver who contributed to many areas, including probability and game theory. Fred Carter a longtime Nashville studio musician and father of country musician Deana Carter, has died. He was 76. He died of complications from a stroke Saturday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Tennessee, according to an obituary and funeral arrangements released Monday by a public relations firm. Born in Louisiana, Carter began his career as a staff guitarist on the Shreveportbased country music show known as the "Louisiana Hayride." He settled in Nashville in the late 1950s as a session player and worked with a steady stream of country artists, including Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson.

James Gammon, the gravel-voiced actor who played the manager of the Cleveland Indians in the 1980s comedy "Major League" and had a host of other movie and TV roles, has died. He was 70. His agent, Merritt Blake, said yesterday that Gammon had cancer and died Friday at his daughter's home in Costa Mesa, Calif. The craggy-faced actor also played the father on the Don Johnson TV show "Nash Bridges." In addition to dozens of TV and movie appearances, Gammon was a noted stage actor who co-founded the MET Theatre in Los Angeles. in is Paulo Moura, a virtuoso instrumentalist and a composer, arranger and orchestrator of numerous styles of Brazilian popular music, died July 12 in Rio de Janeiro.

He was 77. Moura's death was announced on his website, paulomoura.com. According to reports in the Brazilian news media, the cause was lymphoma. A master of both the clarinet and the saxophone, Moura was known for his versatility, playing and writing music that ranged in style from jazz, chorinho, samba and bossa nova to classical. His first solo recording, released in 1956, was a version of Paganini's "Moto Perpetuo," and late in his career he wrote, performed and conducted "Urban Fantasy for Saxophone and Symphonic Orchestra." Luo Pinchao, Cantoneseopera star and the world's oldest opera singer, has died.

He was 98. China's official Xinhua News Agency reported Friday that Luo died at his home in the southern city of Guangzhou on Thursday. Ranked the world's oldest opera singer by the Guinness World Records, Luo was born in June 1912 and began performing in 1930. Cantonese opera is a form of Chinese theater delivered in the southern dialect. Stephen Schneider, a Stanford University scientist who served on the international research panel on global warming that shared the 2007 Nobel Prize with former Vice President Al Gore, has died.

He was 65. Schneider died of an apparent heart attack yesterday while on a flight from Stockholm, Sweden, to London, Stanford officials said. Schneider studied climate change for decades and wrote a number of books charting its effects on wildlife and ecosystems in the United States. He advised every presidential administration from Richard Nixon to Barack Obama..
