Head coach of the East will be Wayne Hardin of Temple, while UCLA's Terry Donohue handles the West- championship and will become only the second undefeated team in Georgia history. If Georgia loses, the Seminoles will be among a number of teams that could lay claim to No.

1 provided they win their bowl games. Six hours after the start of the Georgia-Notre Dame game, Florida State will take on Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl knowing the outcome of the Bulldog-Irish battle. Among the other teams with a shot at the title are Pittsburgh, which takes on unranked South Carolina in the Gator Bowl on Dec. 29; Baylor, which battles Alabama in the Cotton Bowl at 2:10 p.m, on New Year's Day and possibly even Notre Dame. The second 10 consists of North Carolina, UCLA, Southern Cal, Ohio State, Brigham Young, Washington, Mississippi State, South Carolina, SMU and Maryland, NEW YORK The University of Georgia, the nation's only major undefeated team, and Florida State nailed down the top two spots in UPI's final regular-season ratings Monday.

Following balloting by UPI's Board of Coaches, with 39 of the 42 coaches responding, the Bulldogs, ranked No. 1 for the fifth straight week, received 37 first-place votes for 582 points to easily outdistance Florida State, The SeminoleB, who defeated Florida 17-13 last Saturday, moved up from the No. 3 position, replacing Notre Dame, which fell to No. 8 after suffering its first defeat of the year, 20-3 to Southern California Saturday. The final ratings will be released on Sunday, Jan.

4, 1981. Florida State received one first-place vote and totaled 540 points from the coaches. Rounding out the top five are Pittsburgh (489 votes), Oklahoma (417) and Michigan (386). Rounding out the bottom five are No. 6 Alabama, No.

7 Baylor, No. 8 Notre Dame, No. 9 Nebraska and No. 10 Penn State. Georgia, with a victory over Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl on New Year's Day, can clinch its first national FSU climbs to No.

2 in OPD poll COACHING RUMORS: The athletic committee of the Auburn University trustees reported Monday that It plans more interviews in its search for a football coach." Committee Chairman Morris Savage said the committee knows the Southeastern Conference date to sign high school seniors is Saturday, but the committee is more interested in finding a quality coach. Among the multitude of coaches who have been reported to be on Auburn's list are Wyoming Coach Pat Dye, Mississippi State's Emory Bellard, North Carolina's Dick Crum, Wake Forest's John Mackovic, and St. Louis Cardinals' assistant and former Auburn star Billy Atkins.
