SEVERAL evening gowns and wraps from Paris In my possession. Would dispose of them at a very reasonable figure. Smith, 72 West 134tb street nov2-3mo BUXTON. From The Chicago Defender1. Buxton is the name or a town In Iowa peopled exclusively by Negroes.

It Is simply a case of segregation put to a practical test. The Inhabitants number aliout 4,500. they have no mayor. Their municipal government consists of George Terrell and Spencer Cary. both Justices of the peace; A.

Terklns, deputy sheriff Nelson Walker and John Brown, constables, all being Negroes. They have a large, thoroughly equipped school building, with upwards of tet. rooms, presided over by Principal GI1-Ilams, an Intelligent, highly educated Negro. The postmaster of Buxton, a Mr. 'Morgan, Is the only Negro holding such sn office In Ihe State.

Think of It! A settlement ln Iowa composed wholly of Negroes, and to the tune of 4,500. Their opportunities are unlimited in all directions. The town is as yet unincorporated. Hundreds of towns have been Incorporated with less than 4,500 souls. Our colored brothers should get tether and give their town a standing.

Just think nf the unlimited possibilities of that settlement, and In Iowa, where they are at liberty to exercise their right of Hiiffr.iire! A whole municipality composed In Its entirety of Negroes, from a mnyor on down to the Janitor of the town You hold the goose that lays the golden egg In the palm of your hand, citizens of Buxton. Be mindful that you do not kill the goose. Dr. Holly's Lecture on Ilaytl. Hon.
