Georgia had two possessions in the third quarter and both resulted in 80-yard touchdown drives. On the first, the Bulldogs marched down field in nine plays without throwing a pass. Jasper Sanks, who was stuffed on the final play of last week's loss to Auburn from the 1, leaped into the end zone from a yard out to give Georgia a 14-9 lead.

Greene finally got into the act on the next drive. The left-handed redshirt freshman hit Damien Gary for 44 yards and four plays later Greene lofted a 9-yard fade into the corner of the end zone to Terrence Edwards to make it 21-9. The Bulldogs (6-3, 5-3 Southeastern Conference) beat the Rebels (6-3, 3-3) for the fifth straight time. The anticipated shootout between quarterbacks David Greene of Georgia and Eli Manning of Ole miss never developed. Manning was 35-for-47 for 233 yards and two touchdowns, but rarely got the ball downfield.

His third interception of the season was run back 82 yards for a touchdown by Jermaine Phillips early in the fourth quarter. Greene was 8-for-14 for 93 yards and a touchdown. Georgia, without injured leading rusher Musa Smith, ran for a season-high 268 yards. The Bulldogs have been airing it out this season for over 300 yards a game with a mediocre running game that ranks in the lower half of the SEC. Haynes, a senior, entered the game with 170 yards rushing this season and just 216 in two seasons at Georgia.

But he conjured up memories of past Georgia greats such as Garrison Hearst and Herschel Walker on 26 carries against the worst run defense in the SEC. Haynes is the seventh player to rush for over 100 yards in a game this season against Ole Miss. Wilk. Co. shows basketball strength LIBERTY Wilkinson County swept past Amite County Thursday in basketball action. The Wilkinson County boys edged Amite County 50-47, and the Wilkinson County girls beat Amite 61-52. The Wilkinson county boys' team improved its record to 3-2, while the Amite boys fell to 1-2.

The Wilkinson County girls are now 1-4, while the' Amite girls are 0-3. The Amite County boys led 24-20 at halftime. Jonathan Melson led the Trojans with 16 points. Carlos Young had 14, and Greg Hughes had six. The Amite boys' 35 turnovers added to the team's defeat.

Wilkinson County girls led 36-30 at halftime in their game. Jacque Washington led the Amite County girls with 15 points, including three 3-pointers. Toya Collins had 14 point, Nicole Nunnery had 10, and Kim Andrews had nine. Samantha Sherman led the Wilkinson County team with 24 points and Rosalyn Lacey scored 19 points. Amite County hosts Clinton, Tuesday at home.

Mewelde Moore had 135 yards rushing on 20 carries. Moore's 262 carries for 1,421 yards were both school records and the sophomore was the first running back to gain over 100 yards on the Golden Eagles' defense this season. HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) -Tulane has given up a lot of points this season and Southern Mississippi was glad to add to the total. Jeff Kelly threw for a school-record 400 yards and DaWayne Woods scored a career-best four touchdowns to lead Southern Miss to 59-6 win Saturday over the Green Wave.

The Golden Eagles (5-3, 3-2 Conference USA) remained in the hunt for a fifth straight bowl bid. "It would mean a lot for this school, but I want it specifically for the players," said Southern Miss coach Jeff Bower. "And of course, we have to go out the next three games and earn it." Tulane (3-9, 1-6) finished the season with three wins for the second straight year and set the C-USA record for most points allowed in a season with 495. The previous worst was 456 by Cincinnati in 1996. Southern Miss scored on its first five possessions.

Woods scored on 1, 3, and 4-yard runs while also hooking up with Kelly on a 38-yard touchdown pass. James Walley had a 1-yard run that made it 21-0 with 53 seconds left in the first quarter. Robert Kent threw for five touchdowns and ran for another score as Jackson State beat the Braves 52-28 Saturday for the Tigers' seventh straight win over their instate rival. Jackson State (7-3, 5-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference) amassed 626 yards of total offense. Kent finished with 372 yards passing. "We wanted to put points on the scoreboard," Kent said.
