The excursion down to Deesport and across the lake last Sunday evening, on the ferry boat Evangeliue, Capt.

W. S. Cary, was well attended, and proved an enjoyable, as well as profiatble, affair. The children in attendance had a good, merry time, and were well pleased with the trip. It was a pleasure indeed to witness the enjoyment, of the young folks.

It is not often they have an opportunity of engaging in such outdoor amusements, hence, a repetition of snch recreation should be indulged in for their sake, if for nothing else. To-morrow, at 5:30 p. the Evangeline make a similar trip, starting from the ferry boat lauding, and return at 7:30 p. in. Rev.

J. J. Blantz, German Methodist preacher stationed at this place, is having a school-house erected near his church buildiug for the purpose of establishing an Eughsh and German school. Mr. Blantz is well and favorably known iu Lake Charles, and will, no doubt, I make it a success, as we have a large number of Geroutn-Ameri- caus growing up iu our raidat, hose parents doubtless will be pleased to have them instructed iu their mother tongue.

Our citizens will no doubt peruse it ith much interest, and learn therefrom the ad vantages we have, that from abroad can see, of ma king our little l( ot Prominent inland towns in the State. We were shown some egg-plants a few day's ago raised by Mr. Schindler, of this place, tbe largest of which measured tweuty-four, and tbe smallest eighteen, inches in circumference. Mrs. Muller's fine two-story store and residence building, corner of Ryau and Division streets, is last approaching completion, and will be occupied iu ft few weeks lieuee.
