(NCC Photo) Terry Cloth On Washday Cotton terry cloth Is easy to wash, advises the Cleanliness Bureau. Terry cloth needs no ironing and, with proper handling, fluffs right back into shape. Use moderately hot soapsuds and rinses. To avoid setting deep creases, give it only a short spin cycle in an automatic washing machine, or adjust the wringer loosely on the conventional type of washer. If you wash it by hand, avoid twisting and wringing. Shake terry well before hanging it to dry — preferably outdoors in the shade. And stretch it taut along all seams and stitched edges to prevent puckering later. Hang large pieces over parallel lines set a foot or two apart — or if a dryer is used, take the fabric out while still just slightly damp. Either way, it will dry fluffy enough to go right back into place. However, if there are any reluctant loops, a steam iron held half-an-inch or so above the surface will coax them up.
