25. in Bartow. "It makes you realize you can fight City Hall." That was the reaction of Jim Whitten, president of the North Bay Hills Homeowners Association, to an announcement Wednesday by the Florida Department of Transportation that it has discarded a plan to realign State Road 580 straight through 15 new homes in the Northwood Estates and North Bay Hills neighborhoods in Clearwater and Safety Instead, a state official said, the road will be widened and realigned close to the existing road bed. Hillsborough New Port Richey It seemed to be a case of dollar signs outweighing brotherly love. The New Port Richey City I Council refused Tuesday night to approve rezoning for a proposed low-rent housing project for the elderly. At stake was the anticipated loss of abouC $30,000 in taxes, and that caused at least three council members to sit silent as Councilman John Durney entreated them to second his motion for approval. The housing project was to have used federal money to build a i 110-apartment six-story building on Congress Street at Kentucky Avenue. With the Presbyterian Homes of South Florida Inc.

He kept on smoking cigars, his wife said, until he died. Mr. Bassett retired last October after serving 43 years on the staffs of the Timet and its old sister publication, the Mirror, now defunct. Born in Glendale, he was 2 when he moved with his parents to Mamaroneck, N.Y., where he grew up. He graduated cum laude from Bowdoin College in Maine in.
