The network said that from 1 0 till about 1 1 :45 p.m.

EDT, the time the All fight was actually on, the bout drew a 46.7 rating, meaning 46.7 per cent of TV sets in the nation were tuned in, and a whopping 73 share, meaning 73 per cent of the aats in use, were tuned to the fight. Those are records for a TV fight, surpassing the first Ali-Spinks bout. During that period, the -fight delivered approximately 34.8-million homes per minute, an all-time record for a sports event and second only in TV history to the final episode of Roots. The previous record for homes delivered wss Super Bowl XII last January with 34.4-million. Tulsa football player from Florida dies A 1 9-year-old University of Tulsa football player who had been held out of practice since an injury last Thursday died Tuesday of pneumonia, a medical examiner reported.

Joe Sandusky, a sophomore defensive end from Cooper City, was hit in the ribs in a football practice session last Thursday and was examined by doctors, Tulsa Coach John Cooper said. Dr. Nail Hoffman, assistant state medical examiner who performed an autopsy on the body, said Tuesday night Sandusky died of "natural causes" relating to pneumonia. Sandusky's father is John Sandusky, offensive line coach of the Miami Dolphins. Cosmos get clobbered again 6-1 The Cosmos are running into tougher competition on an international tour than they found in the North American Soccer League this year.

Tuesday the New York-based league champions, who got that way by beating the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the finals, dropped another one-sided game in West Germany Tuesday, losing to Stuttgart 6-1 The Cosmos held the German First Division team scoreless in the first half but fell apart in the second half before 55,000 fans in the Neckar Stadium. Giorgio Chinaglia scored the only Cosmos goal in the 53rd minute. It was the second defeat in Germany for the Cosmos on their European tour. A week ago Bayern Munich swamped them 7-1 Meanwhile, the Cosmos' efforts in signing Dutch soccer star Jonan Cruyff have stalled, but the retired player's need of money could prompt him to return to the game for a hefty contract. A newspaper in Barcelona, Spain, said Tuesday that Cruyff owes the Spanish Treasury 1 7.5-million in back taxes and fines.

Cruyff played his last match for the Barcelona club in May. He played with the Cosmos in an exhibition match but so far has refused to join the club on a regular basis. Kings don't count on getting McCourt The Los Angeles Kings didn't sound hopeful Tuesday that they could reverse the U.S. District Court judge's decision and get talented 2 1 -year-old center Dale McCourt from Detroit as compensation for free agent goalie Rogie Vachon. Judge Robert DaMascio, in Detroit Monday, declared the National Hockey League's rule governing compensation for the signing of free agents by other teams was an illegal restraint of trade and he granted McCourt a temporary injunction from reporting to the Kings.

An NHL arbitrator awarded McCourt to the Kings as compensation for the Red Wings' signing of Vachon. "Under the rules. Dale McCourt should be here," Kings General Manager George Maguire said at the second day of the Los Angeles training camp at Culver City, Calif. "But if the rules are scrapped, it's a whole new ball game. A lot of funny things have happened in the courts." Center Stan Mikita has signed for his 20th season with the Chicago Black Hawks.

Mikita has won four NHL scoring championships. He is the Hawks' all-time leading scorer and is their last link to the Stanley Cup championship team of 1960-61. College conference forms for basketball Eight colleges and universities spread from Georgia to the Mexican border united Tuesday into a new NCAA Division 1 athletic conference that wiH emphasize basketball and spring sports. The league wiH be called the Trans America Athletic Conference and will be made up of Cententary College (Shreveport, Har din-Simmons University (Abilene, Texas); Houston Baptist University; Mercer University (Macon, Northeast Louisiana University (Monroe, Oklahoma City University; Pan American University (Edinburg, Texas); and Stamford University (Birmingham, Ala.) The West Coast Athletic Conference announced Tuesday it is working on a basketball schedule for the 1 9 79-80 season that will enable it to add both Gonzaga University and the University of San Diego. However, the WCAC's executive committee delayed action until a committee can work out a suitable nine-team schedule.

If the odd-team scheduling is impractical, the conference will admit only one of the universities, a spokesman said. Eckerd soccer team gives fits to FIT Eckerd College upped its soccer record to 2-0 Tuesday afternoon with a 5-0 trouncing of Florida Institute of Technology in Jensen Beach. Triton goals were scored by Dick Freda, Stan Urguhart, Marcos Lima, Doug Tveten and Pat Diemert. Eckerd's next game is Saturday afternoon at the University of Tampa.
