11 chpa TIMES SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 1979 Executive works on a modern way to present a timeless message By SHARON KIRBY t. Pelertburg Timet Steff Writer An eight-point statement of faith for the station's directors is also printed on the brochure and includes belief in the Bible as the Word of God, in one God, in the deity of Jesus Christ, that regeneration by the Holy Spirit is essential to the salvation of man, in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, in the resurrection of the saved and the lost, in the spiritual unity of believers and that salvation is received wholly by grace through faith in Christ and is provided for all men by the death of Christ. The station will he financed by donations and by the sale of program time. Advertisements will not be sold except to nonprofit organizations, D'Andrea said. A board of directors will run the station, he said.

"I want the church community to know this is their station," he stressed. "There are no stockholders. It belongs to the Lord and to the people." AN INTERESTING aspect of the station will be a 24-hour-a-day telephone counseling service. Listeners will be able to call the station and talk to someone about their problems or needs. "A lot of people just want someone to talk with occasionally," D'Andrea said.

The staff of the station right now is rather small. Paul Garber from Lakeland has been hired as station manager, and Gerald McCook has been hired as chief engineer. Sev eral secretaries have been employed during the planning stages of the station, Headquarters are now at 8100 Ulmerton Road, Largo, in the office of D'Andrea Electric. When the station begins broadcasting D'Andrea expects to have 20 to 25 persons on the staff. A newsletter is sent out each month telling the status of the station, and most local churches are on that mailing list.

Several churches already have made donations and D'Andrea feels the support from churches has been good. "We will not affiliate with, or try to take the place of, any church," he said. "Our efforts will be to see the local churches prosper and grow." What kind of programs will be on in the middle of the night? "There are some good programs planned for then," D'Andrea said. "Studies have shown that there is a segment of people who listen from 1 to 5 a.m. They nn't sleep, or they work off -shifts.

Some of them are disturbed. People can be very lonely during those early hours. "The Christian philosophy is the ansver to all our problems. We hope to get the gospel into many homes and especially to people who can't go to church, such as shut-ins and the elderly. "We hope that this type of station, with a positive approach, will better the community." an area bounded by Brooksville on the north, Sarasota on the south, Lakeland on the east and the Gulf of Mexico on the west.

D'Andrea hopes that the station eventually will be on the air 24 hours each day. Programs will include some shows broadcast via satellite from stations in Los Angeles, and Virginia Beach, Va. Some programs will be produced locally. Speakers and musical presentations at Clearwater area churches may well turn up on the station. Inspirational music, newscast -ing with a "different dimension," solid Bible teaching and preaching, Spanish gospel programing, local church services, programs for children and Bible quiz games will all be among shows telecast on the new station, D'Andrea said, IN A BROCHURE publicizing the station, he says, "We believe at Christian Television Corporation that it is the responsibility of every born-again believer to be a voice in the wilderness, proclaiming repentance and receiving Christ as Savior." LARGO What would moke a successful huHiness-man give up much of his valuable time to help begin a nonprofit Christian television station? Ask Robert R.

D'Andrea, president of D'Andrea Electric Inc. in Largo. He is now devoting almost 100 percent of his time working to bring the Suncoast its first new television station in more than 10 years. "I felt the Lord wanted it (a Christian television station) in this area," D'Andrea said. "It is a new, modern way of presenting the gospel." Christian Television Corporation, on proposed UHF Channel 22, is still in the planning stages for the most part.

D'Andrea expects to be "on the air" by summer or early fall but is just now making final decisions on a site for the television station and approval of the site by the Federal Communications Commission.
