The 37 fires included 20 in McKean County, 15 in Potter County and two in Clinton County.

Half of the year's total occured in April 1971, Eleven of the fires resulted from railroad operations, seven from debris burners, four from smokers and the remainder from miscellaneous causes. Here's steel cord belt strength with polyester cord smoothness, in a great long-wearing tire. Goodyear builds it with two belts of steel cord for long- lasting resistance to impact and penetration. (You wouldn't run over steel drill bits the way we did here but the demonstration illustrates how tough the steel belts really are.) Then Goodyear makes the long mileage easy to take, with a flexible polyester cord body to soak up the shocks. The brute strength of steel. The road-softening smoothness of polyester.

Both in this superb new tire. (Reporter pholo) It's Time for Garage Sales And These Tips May Help Make It Fun and Profitable ByJEANM.FONS With the coming of Spring and warm weather, there follows naturally the start of garage sales.

As people clean attics and basements and clear out the articles that are out-grown and no longer used, the natural place forthem is in the garage. Thus, the advent of a "Garage Many people hold them annually, while others only occasionally or when they are moving to another area. Garage Sales are fun, interesting and can be, if properly organized, financially lucrative. To have a successful sale, a few basic rules should be kept in mind. 1.

Select a date and a time that are convenient to you, keeping in, mind also a time for people to attend your sale. Most perfer the latter part of the week, after payday. This is usually the time people have access to transportation and no less important, the money to spend at your garage sale. Some find it profitable to extend the sale to two days, but you must have enough articles to offer for sale. The 9 a.m.

to 5 p.m. hours are most popular although if the sale is only one day, many extend this time period to 8 or 9 p.m. 2. Now start selecting what is available for sale. Select items that are usable or can be easily repaired.

Have all clothes clean and pressed. The extra few minutes spent on this can reap rewards, since people would rather buy something that is clean and neatly pressed. 3. Arrange articles neatly and put items of a kind together. For Aside from garage sales, example, put all clothes in one area.

Those that can be hung up can be on hangers. You may have to borrow a clothes rack from a neighbor. Put all glassware and dishes together. The same with appliances, etc. Do not crowd items, and try to re-arrange articles as some are sold, to display to best advantage.

Attractive and convenient displays and make it easier for shoppers. 4. Price all articles or have signs clearly visible indicating the price of an item. Have extra change on hand for those that require it. Remember, do not overprice items, and keep in mind also the fact that people -are there to find bargains.

5. Advertise. Probably jnost important of all of the; aforementioned is that you have to advertise. You have to let people know that you are having a Garage Sale. Advertise in the Classified Section of your area newspaper.

If the sale is large enough or if a group of neighbors join together for a sale, it may warrant a display ad with each one of the participants paying a share. Run the ad for at least three times before the sale to assure coverage. In the ad, list the date, time, location, and if possible, some of the articles to be sold. If the location is hard to find, give directions on how to get there. This will be aided by a sign placed in front of the house.

there are basement and yard sales. These are run in the same manner. Yard sales lend to the idea that many neighbors may join in the sale. These of course depend upon the weather. Basement sales are fine if the traffic is not routed through your house.

As a final reminder, keep in mind that the articles that are left over, can. be reduced in price and a "Left over" sale can be scheduled at. a later date. Some people even save these things for their garage sale the following year. FLAG AND WAR MEMPHIS, Tenn.

(AP) A young priest, the Rev. Sam Maceri, assistant pastor of St. Anne's parish here, says he refused to allow a group of Boy Scouts to carry a U.S. flag in a Sunday mass processional because he considered the gesture "a symbol of war. It seemed out of context with our own call for peace."
