"They are playing like different players." Hernando's offense is led by Tony Marks the North Suncoast 'e top scorer with an 18.6 average and Antonio Vasquez, averaging 17.4 points a game. On paper, Citrus would appear to have little chance against the Leopards.

But games are not won on paper. "For a round ball, the basketball takes some funny bounces sometime," Wardlow states. "We can't be too overconfident. "I EXPECT THEM (the Hurricanes) to press and play the zone defense. We're a much better team against the man-to-man and most people know it." Citrus has a well-balanced offense, led by Drew Hope's 12.4-points-a-game average.

Danny Smith is averaging 10.9 and Greg Key 10.3. Hernando's girls entertain Citrus' girls in the first game. Three other doubleheaders are scheduled tonight involving North Suncoast schools. Crystal River, 3-0 in conference play and 6-4 overall, is home against Hudson, 3-2 overall and 0-1 in league competition. Dade City Pasco entertains neighboring Zephyrhills and Land O'Lakes is at New Port Richey Gulf.

The Land O'Lakes-Gulf boys game will be played before the student body, beginning at 1 p.m. Three more games are scheduled Saturday night when Crystal River travels to Dunnellon, Gulf entertains Tampa Catholic and Spring Hill Springstead faces Orlando Luther Prep in Brooksville. The Gulf-Tampa Catholic game is boys only, with boys and girls scheduled to play in the other games. Hudson outwrestles Land O'Lakes Paaco Timal Staff Wrltar rence play. The Leopards are home tonight against Inverness Citrus, 4-6 overall and 0-2 in conference action.

Although Wardlow gave his charges time to rest their weary legs during the holiday break, the Leopards did win a tournament just to keep their game sharp. Hernando won handily over Wildwood and Bushnell South Sumter in the South Sumter Invitational Tournament. "That little tournament helped us a lot," Wardlow says. "We played as a five-man team in the tournament, just like we did when we won the district last year. I think we're beginning to get there." Wardlow was particularly pleased with the tournament play of Rodney Byrd and George Floyd.

Byrd had games of 16 and 14 points while Floyd had a 12-point night in the finals. Both had been playing under the pressure of deciding on college football offers, but have since chosen Eastern Kentucky. By JOHN BOWMAN Sportt Editor BROOKSVILLE Bob Wardlow is beginning to see some good things in Hernando High basketball practice sessions, and that could spell trouble for Gulf Coast Conference opponents. "I have seen some good things in practice this week," Wardlow, the Leopard coach, says. "Our attitude is great and we rested over the Christmas holidays, which helped us a lot.

"I wasn't satisfied with the way we were playing earlier in the season but I'm feeling a lot better about our team now." HERNANDO LEADS the North Suncoast team standings with an 8-0 record and is 2-0 in Gulf Coast Confe HUDSON Hudson High's wrestling team improved its record to 4-1-1 with a 45-20 victory over Land O'Lakes Tuesday. The Cobras won the first six weight classes five by pins for a commanding lead early in the meet.
