PAGE B8 THE HOME WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 1996 GEORGE HUDAK DIES; 'TOO NICE' FOR POLITICS law ytjSS" i i 1 Kologi said some people thought Mr. Hudak was "too nice for politics," and he saw evidence of that. Kologi said Mr. Hudak didn't have any "killer instincts" but was just "a regular guy." One of Mr. Hudak's significant achievements while serving as mayor was working with former Rep.

Bernard Dwyer, D-6th to get federal legislation to release Linden Airport to the city, Kologi said. The city, under Gregorio's administration, recently signed a redevelopment contract that will affect a portion of the airport and bring major commercial revenue into Linden. "He (Mayor Hudak) advanced significantly the (airport) effort on that end (in Washington)," said Kologi, who remembers going with Mr. Hudak to Washington to meet with Dwyer on the issue. The federal legislation later was approved.

"It was his crowning achievement," Kologi said. Assemblyman Joseph Suliga, a Democrat who represents the current 20th District, said Mr. Hudak was one of his mentors when he ran for the 7th Ward seat on the Linden City Council. "He was a quiet guy who worked hard in government," said Suliga, the city Democratic chairman, who also remembers Mr. Hudak enjoying the time he spent as mayor.

Gregorio said he had known Mr. Hudak since he was a young man. Gregorio said Mr. Hudak had challenged him for the mayor's seat in the early 1980s, but Gregorio won byaratioof3-to-l.
