NEW YORK An Army National Guard helicopter went down yesterday in the Hudson River, but its three-member crew escaped serious injury. The helicopter, from the MacAr-thur base at Islip, on Long Island, crashed or made an emergency landing at 12:30 p.m. in the river near 206th Street, in the Riverdale section of The Bronx, said officer Kathleen Kelly, a police spokeswoman.

"My information is it went down. I don't want to characterize it," said Lt. Col. Peter Kutschera, a National Guard spokesman. The helicopter was floating, upside down, about 75 feet offshore.

At least one of the men on board apparently swam to safety. A policeman said he arrived at the river bank and found the pilot, soaking wet and waving his arms. Kutschera said the crew was on a routine training mission. The flight was not related to the massive firefighting effort on Long Island. Capt.

Larry Tobin of the Emergency Medical Service said the crew members were taken to Ja-cobi Hospital in the Bronx for treatment of minor injuries. The crew Bruce Hoffman, 38, Tom Kannas, 55, and Ronald Met-calf, 45 were treated and released, said a hospital spokeswoman. Kutschera said a heavy-duty Chinook helicopter was being sent to remove the downed chopper. The National Guard will send investigators from its Safety Center at Fort Rucker, said Kutschera. Later, the trio went to a bar in Queens where they met other friends and left about 4 a.m., he said.

One of the friends drove the officer home in Revelo's car. Revelo left the car, walked to the front of his Sunnyside section apartment house, pulled out his service revolver and fired once, Samuel said. He died on the street. A three-year veteran, Revelo was on restricted duty because he had been hurt in a car accident. He was assigned to answer telephones at the station house, the spokesman said.

One who was better, God never made; Life goes on we know is true. But not the same since losing you. Death leaves a pain no one can heal, And memories are treasures No one can steal.
