THE HOMEKEWS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 16, 1994 B3 COLLEGE FOOTBALL Tigers win behind Nakielny at QB Late Cornell FG edges Bucknell 1 ft! i Tailbacks Jordan and Marc Washington combined for 202 yards, Jordan getting 127 on 20 carries. Princeton battled back to tie the score at 13-13 on an 18-yard field goal by Brian Buckman 9:2 1 into the second period. On second down after the kick-off, Tiger defensive back Harry Ludwig intercepted a Pohlman pass and returned it 24 yards to the Fordham 34. Six plays later with the ball at the Ram 4, Jordan appeared to have scored, but a holding penalty called the play back. Nakielny completed an 1 1-yard pass to fullback C.

J. Brucato, who then scored from the 1 on the next play as the Tigers took a 20-13 halftime lead. It was Brucato's second 1-yard touchdown run of the game. He scored the first touchdown as the Tigers marched 61 yards with the opening kickoff for a 7-0 lead. The Tigers also scored on their second possession, but had to settle for a 19-yard Buchman field goal after a 38-yard Jordan run got them deep in Ram territory.

Princeton's domination might have continued, but a pass interference penalty against the Tigers pulled the Rams out of a third-and-32 situation, giving Fordham its first first down. The Rams sustained the drive to score as Pohlman ran a quarterback draw the final 5 yards just 1:51 into the second period. Minutes later, Ram tailback Andre Robinson ran 60 yards for a touchdown as Fordham took a 13-10 lead. ByJOHNBRUNS Special to The Home News NEW YORK The story line on yesterday's Princeton-Fordham football game at sunny Jack Coffey Field took more turns than Ford-ham Road which winds past the stadium. gers giving PRINCETON 27 I 1 27 20 FORDHAM 1 ostites nis 50th coach- ing victory at- Princeton with relative ease over the winless Rams. Then Tosches pulled a surprise when he started sophomore Harry Nakielny of Sayreville, N.J., at quarterback in place of junior Brock Harvey, who started Princeton's first four games. After Princeton took a 10-0 lead in tne hrst period, Fordham twisted the plot again by making a game of it and taking a 13-10 lead behind quarterback John Pohl-man, who was making his first start of the season. in the second half, the Rams came back again to tie the score at 20-20, but when the dust finally settled, Tosches had his 50th vic tory as the Tigers prevailed, 27-20. Tailback Bill Jordan scored the winning touchdown 5:52 into the fourth period after the Tigers got the ball at the Fordham 40 when a high snap foiled a Ram punt attempt.

It wasn't a victory to touch off a major celebration. First of all, the Tigers (4-1) were fully expected to keep the Rams (0-7) winless. Secondly, the Princeton defense, the team strength the past three Saturdays, proved vulnerable. To be blunt, the Tigers struggled with the Rams, who have not let being winless keep them from playing with determin ation. ''We had a chance for some big points today and we just didn't do it," Tosches said.

"We did not play well defensively and yet were able to come away with a vic tory." Replacing Harvey, who had completed 43 of his 86 passes for 481 yards and two touchdowns in four games but thrown seven in terceptions, was sometning Tosches obviously agonized over. field goal. Stokes led Penn with 192 yards rushing on 37 carries. HARVARD 35, COLGATE 27 Backup quarterback Steve Kezi-rian ran for two fourth-quarter touchdowns and Eion Hu also scored twice as Harvard (3-2) rallied for a victory over visiting Colgate (1-5). Taking over after Vin Ferrara was shaken up late in the third quarter, Kezirian tied the score at 21 with a 2-point conversion run after Hu scored on a 4-yard run early in the final period.

Then, Kezirian, who had carried just once and completed just one pass in his career, hit on three passes before scoring on a 6-yard keeper at 7:31. He then finished an 80-yard march by covering the last 4 yards with three minutes left. Kezirian carried seven times for 69 yards, and completed five of seven passes for 45 yards for Harvard (3-2). DARTMOUTH 14, YALE 13 In Hanover, N.H., Jerry Singleton's 22-yard scoring pass to David Shearer and Pete Oberle's 2-point conversion run with 3:01 remaining lifted Dartmouth to an Ivy League victory over Yale (3-2, 0-2). Dartmouth (3-2, 1-1) collected its third straight win with two fourth-quarter touchdown passes from Singleton.

Oberle and Singleton both transferred to Dartmouth from Colorado State where they had been redshirted. BROWN 20, HOLY CROSS 18 In Providence, R.I., Jason McCullough threw three touchdown passes and Paul Fichiera rushed for 199 yards as Brown kept Holy Cross winless. The Bears (3-2) stopped Holy Cross (0-6) on fourth down five times, all in Brown territory. The Associated Press Princeton quarterback Harry Nakielny, center, scampers through the line as Fordham linebacker Jason Jacobs (34) reaches out to try to stop him during yesterday's game in New York. The Associated Press John Rodin's 41 -yard field goal with 11 seconds remaining lifted unbeaten Cornell to a wild 29-28 victory over Bucknell on Homecoming weekend yesterday in Le-wisburg, Pa.

The 4l-yarder was a personal best for Rodin and gave Cornell (5-0) its best start since 1971. Chad Levitt led the Cornell rushing attack with 117 yards on 32 carries. He scored on a 1-yard plunge in the first quarter and again on a 78-yard TD reception in the third. Bucknell's Rich Lemon scored on an 83-yard run on the game's first play from scrimmage. He finished with 110 yards on 19 rushes, extending his school record to 10 consecutive 100-yard games.

Terence Parham's 91 -yard kick-off return gave Bucknell a 14-10 halftime lead. Bob Horst's 2-yard touchdown run extended Bucknell's lead to 28-19 with 5:19 left. But the Bisons missed the extra-point attempt and the Big Red responded with a 11 -play, 67-yard drive capped by Per Larson's 2-yard TD run. With the extra point, Cornell cut it to 28-26. After a Bucknell punt, Larson drove Cornell down the field to set up the winning field goal.

PENN12, COLUMBIA 3 In Philadelphia, Andy Glockner hit four field goals as a struggling Penn offense wore down stubborn Columbia. Glockner's kicks of 32, 28, 21, and 37 yards tied a school record as the Quakers (4-0, 2-0 Ivy League) extended Division 1-AA football's longest winning streak to 16 games. Columbia (2-2-1, 0-2) drove to the Penn 26 after the opening kickoff to set up Joe Aldrich's 43-yard field goal 2:13 into the game. It was the first time Penn trailed an opponent all season. But Penn tied the game later in the period after Terrance Stokes' 45 yard run set up Glockner's first Just Say Charge It! "He was very supportive and he wasn't moody and didn't wear his disappointment on his sleeve." Nakielny, who passed for over 1,500 yards as a senior at Sayreville and played in the sectional championship game with a broken finger, said, "It was awkward at first because Brock and I are good friends. It was a little tense." He said he was more nervous when he tried his first punt in the opener at Cornell. "I was much more relaxed," he said. "The guys had confidence in me." Nakielny completed 10 of 17 passes for 129 yards and ran the ball seven times for a net of 28 yards. However, he did have two costly fumbles.

But he said since preseason camp, Nakielny, who had been doing the punting and had thrown only two varsity passes, had shown promise. "We felt there was just a link missing, and with the nature of it, you've got to start with the quarterback. We might make some other changes, but we started there." He added, "He's our starter right now.
