Thanksgiving Day kicks off this five- week period dedicated to gluttony. It winds up on January 1 with all participants lying in front of their TV sets. They'll try to tell you they're watching the New Year's Day football games, but don't let them fool you! After this five- week ceremonial of crapulence, they can't get off that couch! The turkey has won the dubious honor of top billing in this annual show is sometimes even called 'Turkey Day." Turkeys have been trying for years to find some other bird that will look good with sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie. The turkey, you see, really wants to replace the bald eagle as our national bird, and even had Ben Franklin lobbying for him some years back. Old Ben went around saying that the turkey was much more respectable than the bald eagle, who, he felt, was a bird of 'bad moral character." On several occasions, turkeys have even staged protest marches in our nation's capitol doing the turkey trot up and down Pennsylvania Avenue shouting "Don't Gobble and with Thanksgiving what have we got to be thankful for Because of these activities, turkeys are thought of in some quarters as a subversive group the term 'Turkey Red." But, alas, turkeys are stuck with Thanksgiving, and they have Gov.

William Bradford to blame for it. To while away the long hours on the Mayflower, the pilgrims took up the sport of bowling. It so happened that on the last day at sea, just before they sighted Plymouth Rock, John Alden got three strikes in a row during a blowling tournament, whereupon Gov. Bradford shouted, 'He got a turkey John got a TURKEY!" And Priscilla Mullens was heard to mutter, 'Speak for your self, John!" So you see, just because John Alden didn't throw a gutter ball on that fateful day, Thanksgiving is not really a red letter day for the turkey. Itry to make this day as pleasant as possible for him urge you to do the same, With this in mind, I have decided to share with you a recipe for turkey dressing that has been in our family for years, Use it poor turkey will get a bang out of it!
