JUST IN THE FAMILY- Where Does Pride Begin Snobbishness End? -Virginia Kay Where does normal i end and snobbishness Oddly enough we have had too letters recently on this general subject, triggered perhaps by a student's mention of snobbishness in some of the high schools. The following is also from a young reader: BEAR VIRGINIA KAY: I would like to vigorously protest the conception that you are a snob if you choose your friends carefully. I can give you several examples of what- I wean. My parents and I just returned from, a p.ur with a large group of We found very few in the entire assembly that enjoyed the same things we did, but we did find those few and we had a.

rewarding and a very good lime together. We weren't "snooty" to the rest, but we soon discovered that they thought we In school I went a with the girls and boys; whose parents were friends of my parents, this mainly because we had all known one another from infancy, had attended the same birthday a i gone lo the same fiances at the clubs where our fathers were members, etc. I do not feel that we did this because we were snobs, as we had the reputation of being. Bui everyone of us, I confident, had enough pride in our families and in ourselves to behave in the manner we had been taught, and lo look like well-bred young Americans, nor i Twiggies or the male counterparts. If this is being snob, Virginia, I must plead guilty, but I am sure I will always feel I should have the right to choose my dose friends without the 'act branding me as a snob.

I am 18, by the way. SELECTIVE, Alladena -A- DEAR VIRGINIA: I would like the opinion of your readers, and of course yours. I joined a local club a months ago with high' hope of finding new friends. I a come from a long way off, and had left a raft of friends behind me came here only because "my brother and family now live out here niy closest relatives. I found that Ihey belong to a very religious organization which is not for me, so although it does not interfere with our affection and respect for each other, it does mean that I can't fit into their social life.

When I joined the which shall bp nameless, 1 hoped it would fill a need for me. Instead. I find that the members are divided into such closely knit little cliques thai a newcomer finds it al- most impossible to get through the barriers. Though members in i club who orbit around president seem-to be so proud of their position that they only speak "graciously" the less favored yet we all pay the same dues and support the same charities. Virginia, is our country a democracy? Or isn't it? DISCOURAGED, Pasadena Here is a subject AND examples which should be controversial enough to touch off fascinating discussions wherever, a few- i gather, We might toss in another question: Where does true graciousness (of spirit) begin, and where does condescension creep in? DEAR VIRGINIA: My sister and I were interested in your mention of Carmel and its charms.

We wished you had written much more about it, what visitors should do and see, etc. We wonder if you drove, and if so if that coast route is as tickelish as we have heard from one friend. We expect to go in August. Thank you, but I am a scary one. CARMEL BOUND SISTERS, Arcadia DEAR SISTERS: One of my companions, Mabel Nicholas, like you, was "scary" of the famed Coast Route to Carmel, so we took the inner roads, lovely because of the a many miles of open country.

I did not drive. The friend, Mrs. Laura Ferrell of Camarillo, tools her comfort- Correction Nancy Anne Beall and Lovell Stuber Jarvis were married June 10 in Pasadena Presbyterian Church. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs.

Seville, Araiza Vows Said When Yvonne Marie Araiza was wed to Larry George Seville in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, her wedding veil was draped from a handmade crown of orange blossoms and her satin gown was appliqued with Alencon lace and looped pearls. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lopez Araiza of Altadena, and the son of Mr.

and Mrs. John James Garcin, also of Altadena, recited vows after the Rev. Brian Coghlan. They received some 400 guests in Sierra Madre Woman's Clubhouse after the 11 a.m. ceremony.

A Beauty Hint Margaret Merril advises that it is quite simple for every woman to promote an English countryside complexion. Her hint to gain a peaches- a cream loveliness is to damp a cloth with cold water from your refrigerator and press it over your face for a few minutes once or twice a day. Then, lo hold the good of (he complexion-beautifying cold wafer, smooth on tropical oil of Olay. This oil is rather scarce and expensive, but your drug should he able to get you a small supply.

able big car--and her drive, ing skill. You should not, however, have difficulty with the Coast Route since you would be on the inside of the highway going to Carmel. a way has its own charm, so you can't be disappointed.
