It was the community's annual "Student Government Day," when young people took over the reins of municipal government as part of classroom training. Their first official act was passing an ordinance prohibiting smoking in the commission meeting room.

Obviously, this was a premeditated bit of maneuvering, one which violated Florida's famous Gov-ernmentin-the-Sunshine Law, for an earlier-prepared "No Smoking" sign appeared immediately and was prominently displayed. OUSTED MAYOR T. S. Madson, relegated to a seat in the spectators' section, squirmed, but gamely kept his cigarettes pocketed. One innocent spectator wasn't as lucky.

He wandered into the room carrying a lighted cigarette and promptly Jewish War Veterans To Install Officers Tlmat Staff Wrlttr el, honorary chaplain, J. "I figure that in my 23 years with NCR we've moved on an average of every 22 months and six days," says the energetic Williams, who is settling down now on Island Estates in Clearwater. Part of the travel must have seemed like a shuttle between the home office in Dayton, Ohio, and points south. HE STARTED out with NCR not long after his discharge from the service, where he reached the rank of major in the adjutant general's office.

Corpus Christi, Tex. was his first stop and he's also been stationed in Harlingen, St. Louis; Austin, Baton Rouge, and of course Dayton. Eight years ago Williams was made Dayton Division manager, overseeing seven central states. Then in 1966 he became branch manager for the Dayton sales office.

THE NCR setup was reorganized into 2 regions in 1969 and on May 1 this year, Williams was named a full vice president and head of the Florida Region, with headquarters on U.S. 19 between Clearwater and St. Petersburg.
