18 THE BACK PAGE THE HOME NEWS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 30, 1982 failri Newest tainted bottle 'different' ill Bissell would not comment on the latter statment last night but did say investigators were pursuing that angle and many other leads. "I don't believe she planned on running away because she took no extra clothing with her. She didn't even take her coat or purse," Mrs. Thor said. The mother described Sharon, whose 16th birthday was Thursday, as an accomplished ballet, tap and jazz dancer, who had made many appearances in the area.

HWIPI I r- i 5 3 CHICAGO (AP) A bottle of poisoned Extra-Strength Tylenol turned in by a woman is 'substantially different" from the bottles of the same cya-nide-laced medicine that claimed the lives of seven people two weeks earlier, authorities say. Lab work continued yesterday on the latest bottle found and fingerprints discovered on the box. Illinois Attorney General Tyrone Fanner said "the latest bottle is clearly different than the other seven" recovered by authorities. Fahner was generally tight-lipped on what bearing the differences might have on the investigation, but told reporters Thursday night, "The reason I say that is because the mixture of cyanide and Tylenol is substantially different." The latest bottle was given to suburban Wheaton police on Oct. 14 by the wife of a local judge.

Seven people who took Extra-Strength Tylenol died of cyanide poisoning between Sept. 29 and Oct. 1. The woman told authorities she had purchased the medication at a local store before going on vacation, then turned it in without taking any of it when sh returned. A source close to the investigation said yesterday that it was his understanding authorities have determined from lab tests that "a different batch pf cyanide" was found in the eighth contaminated bottle recovered.

The source, who refused to be identi fied by name or position, said extensive laboratory testing can determine between two different batches of the same poison, but he declined to elaborate. Authorities thus far have not said whether all the contaminated capsules contained cyanide from a single batch. All the other contaminated capsules, however, proved to contain potassium cyanide. Another possibility raised by Fahner in his Thursday night briefing was that more than one person may be reponsi-ble for the contaminations. But he cautioned: "I will draw no inferences now regarding the anomalies with the eighth bottle.

It may indicate the possibility of more than one person being involved. But I am not suggesting that." Before the woman turned in the eighth contaminated bottle, authorities had recovered five bottles related to the deaths, another was turned in by a consumer and the seventh was found on a store shelf. The contents of the capsules in the eighth bottle were orange, not the whitish-gray of other poisoned capsules, and the capsules themselves had not deteriorated, as had contaminated capsules found previously. Fahner said. In addition, "some (of the seven contaminated capsules) were put together unartfullv," he said.

Meanwhile, Szabo has said Stanko-vits' position never was changed but that Civil Service misunderstood the classification. During the dispute, Stankovits said that Szabo declined to answer memo randums he wrote last July and again in September seeking Szabo's approval for a letter to be sent to the commis sioners of the Departments of Health and Environmental Protection requesting the investigation into water sup plies, especially in East Brunswick. Szabo declined to elaborate on his reasons for not approving the letter, but indicated that he believed the letter was partially motivated by politics. Recently, the East Brunswick and county Republicans announced they would file a lawsuit charging the coun ty health department with negligence for its alleged failure to pursue investi gations into the adequancy of the groundwater supply beneath the county landfills.

Mrs. Sonia Thor, Sharon's mother, reported that her daughter left home at about 5:45 p.m. Tuesday under peculiar circumstances. "Sharon had been watching television until she received a very brief telephone call. She then walked out the front door and walked down the street where it is believed she got into a waiting car," her mother said.
