Wednesday, May 4, 1988, Jackson Hole Guide, A 17 It's town cleanup time again The annual Town and County Spring Cleanup begins next Saturday and will continue through May 14. "I invite all residents to participate in any way they can to clean and beautify Jackson Hole," said Mayor Abi Ca- ramar. in announcing the dates for the campaign. "Saturday, Mayl4, is Cleanup Day," said Garaman. "volunteers meet in the Town Square at 9 a.m." Ehlers COMPLIMENTS IMtS OF OF UMm JACKSON HOLE HAMBURGERS Broadwat killings and the murder in Florida of another man who knew Rice and was killed on the same day.

But no connection was found. Peter and Lisa Ehlers had owned The Bunnery and had a part interest in the Sweetwater Deli, but both were sold before they left town. The three deaths in Utah which Bell says he believes he can specifically link to the same person who killed Ehlers arc: Christine Gallegos, 18, of West Valley City, Utah, who was shot and stabbed to death in a Salt Lake City parking lot on May 15, 1986. Carla Maxwell, 20, ofOgden, shot to death behind the counter of a 7-1 1 store on April 25, 1986. Maxwell was shot five times in the head and once in the body.

No money was taken from the store. Lisa Strong, 25, who was shot in the head several times on a Salt Lake City street corner on May 1 2, 1 986. Police said she appeared to be trying to run from someone. The women killed in Salt Lake City, whose deaths have been linked officially to the serial killer, all were shot with copper-jacketed, hollow-point bullets, as was Ehlers. Bell said a major police effort is going into the creation of a detailed computer time chart back-tracking Rhoades' whereabouts over the past four years.

It involves trying to find pay check records, bank records, work records and apartment rent receipts anything that would positively place Rhoades in a particular place at a particular time. "We desperately need the public's help," Bell said. "We'd be particularly grateful if the owners of roofing, siding, drywall and construction companies in your area would go back through their records to see if they ever employed Mr. Rhoades. "He could have used his real name or one of his known aliases, Sam Johnson and Rick Edwards.

He also possibly used the alias, John French." Rhoades was born Jan. 18, 1957. He is six-foot-two and 245 pounds. His Social Security number is 5 1 8-76-4563. Bell said Rhoades has always had long hair "and he might have looked like an Indian to someone who just took a quick look, although he definitely is white." Bell asks that anyone with any information about Rhoades' presence in this area call him at (801) 535-6513 after 4 p.m.

or Det. John Foster at (801) 535-6510 during the day. From pae A 1 Mr. Rhoadcs is responsible for a great number of homicides that have gone unsolved. We have numerous murdered and missing women in the Salt Lake City area, and after Paul Rhoades was taken into custody, all murders in this pattern miraculously stopped.

"The Lisa Ehlers case follows the pattern. It's the way all the cases fit together in Utah, Idaho and Wyoming." The gun used in all the killings was a .38 or a .357 magnum the same weapon, changing designation depending on the type of ammunition used. "There are a number of other similarities, but I can't disclose at this time what they are," Bell said. Kip Crofts, head of the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigations, confirmed in a telephone interview with the Guide that his unit also considered Rhoades a suspect in the Ehlers case. "We're aware of it, and we're involved in looking into it," Crofts said.

"I don't know that I'm ready to call him a prime suspect, but we are convinced that it is worth pursuing." Ehlers, 25, was killed June 21 1984, at a roadside turnout near Bondurant. She was shot once in the chest and once in the head. She had left Jackson at about 5 a.m. to begin a trip to Panama City, to join her husband, Peter, who had moved there to become a restaurant developer. Near Hoback Junction, Ehlers passed a Wyoming Highway Department truck whose driver itmcmbered her car because of the wind surfer on the roof.

Ten minutes later, when the truck emerged from Hoback Canyon, the driver spotted Ehlers' body beside her automobile, its engine still running. Her purse was still in the car, untouched, and police were able to rule out robbery as a motive. That is one of the factors coincidental to Utah's serial killings. Ehlers was killed six weeks after Jon Rice, a 26-year-old loan officer at First Wyoming Bank, was shot in execution style in his condo at the Aspens in what has been described as a drug-related murder. Authorities looked intently for a connection between the Rice and Ehlers FORD REBATES, DEALER DISCOUNTS AND 8.25 FINANCING AT ALPINE 1988 Ford Taurus LX Station Wagon V6, Auto OD, Cabernet Red, Stk 88F47 $15,300 after rebate and discount 1 988 Ford Taurus LX Station Wagon V6, Auto OD, Silver Clearcoat Metallic, Stk 88F1 2 $15,700 after rebate and discount 1 988 Ford Taurus LX 4-door Sedan V6, Auto OD, Dark Cinnabar Clearcoat Metallic, Stk 88F5 $14,700 after rebate and discount 1988 Ford Taurus MT-5 4-door Sedan 14, 5-Speed manual, Sandalwood Clearcoat Metallic.
