Trump surrounds stars with revues, specialty acts By DAVID SPAT2 five years. And Fang's favorite stage wife, Phyllis Diller (the Cyndi Lauper of the Geritol-for-lunch bunch), rounds out the summer program with an Aug. 11-31 stand. Idol Gossip: A pair of composers whose prolific pens and musical minds created some of the most popular music of the past quarter-century will share the stage of The Circus Maximus showroom at Caesars June 20-22. Burt Bacharach, who with lyricist Hal Davd helped launch Dionne Warwck's career in the early 1960s, will team up with singer and (actor and songwriter and ex-husband of Joan Collins) Anthony Newley to create three evenings of musical memories, according to Caesars marketing vice president Howard Klien, who caught the pair in action recently in Miami Beach.

"Every song, and I mean every single song in that show, was a winner, a major hit for somebody," Klein said enthusiastically, "The (audence) walked out of the showroom feeing good, and that's when I decided we should bring the combination to Atlantic City." Neither Bacharach nor Newley are strangers to the showroom circuit here. Bacharach, whose late father was a longtime Atlantic City resident, performed with his wife, lyricist Carole Bayer Sager, at the Sands several years ago. And Newley, who once praised Bacharach for revolutionzing commercial music "in a most unlikely way, by replacing noise with music," has brought his dramatic, Broadway-style act to several casino stages. Short Bets: Humorist Alan King teams with singer Maureen McGovern this weekend for two nights of mirth and music at Resorts. Lou Rawls is starring at the Golden Nugget through Sunday, while Donny and Marie Osmond roll their sugar-and-spice act into the Trump casino hotel for a one-nighter tomorrow.

Billy Daniels and the cast of the musical "Bubbling Brown Sugar" close out their three-month run at the Claridge with this weekend's performances, and country singer Glen Campbell headlines in the Tropicana showroom through Sunday. "City Lites" and "An Evening at La Cage" continues their long runs at Trump's Castle and Bally's respectively. in Las Vegas several years ago and has since been incorporated into several production shows in Las Vegas. Ironically, the Las Vegas Hilton was among the frst Nevada showrooms to experiment with the concept when if scrapped its full-time headliner policy in an effort to bring soaring entertainment costs under control. Rather than play mega-salary stars, the hotel mounted a massive, fixed-cost production show titled "Bal du Moulin Rouge" and set aside a budget to book stars like Suzanne Somers and Charo as the hook to bring in customers.

The new look of "City Lites" begins on a bizarre and wacky note May 19 when comedian Rip Taylor's name goes up on the marquee. He'll be replaced by the singer's singer, Jack Jones, who brings his stylish vocals to the waterfront June 9-29. Entertainer Jim Nabors, who's best known for his television character Gomer Pyle (and his thick southern drawl that melts into an operatic baritone), headlines June 30-July 20. Following Nabors into the city's second-smallest (454 seats) showroom is singer Vikki Carr, who hasn't performed locally in more than ATLANTIC CITY For a casino comptroller the guy for whom the bottom line is the only line it's like having the best of both worlds. Trump's Castle Hotel Casino will be featuring stars in its King's Court showroom from mid-May through late August, but not at the expense of losing its "City Lites" production show.

The lavish and long-running revue that developer Donald Trump inherited when he purchased the hotel from Hilton Hotels Corp, will continue to present its flashy production numbers, specialty acts and ice skating routines that make the show unique to Atlantic City's casino nightclubs. However, the middle portion of the show will be turned over to five popular and diverse performers who have each been signed for three-week runs in "City Lites," according to Castle spokesman Dennis Gorski. Although it's a new type of revue format for Atlantic City, the plan was successfully tested Bally's employs catchy tactic to bring Asian-Americans into casinos atlantis Casino Hotel $12 Co.n so Goods Services Credit S5 Deterred Vouciw Sun Ihru murs. arrivals after 4 PM. son $10 S5 Goods Serve es Credit 55 Deterred Voucher Mon thru Thurs arrivals before 4 PM and mas show for the Tropicana.

After the success of this show, other casinos began to activity court the Asian-American market, Ms. Chan said. Shows at that casino and his independent programs at Bally's are created with the Asian-American audience in mind, although the group welcomes all people to the show. Featured singers and actors usually speak both Chinese and English. A singer with a big international reputation attracted a mixed audience in December 1983.

The performer, Samuel Hyi, is known as the Oriental Elvis Presley, Ms. Chan said. Bally's cooperates with Peter Chan Productions to present the shows although all production costs and ticket revenues go to Chan, said Patt Medchill, vice president of Bally's. "We don't have to spend a lot of funds to ATLANTIC CITY (AP) Bally's Park Place features a show with two popular singers from Hong and some say it's pirt of a citywide effort to lure members of different ethnic groups to the showrooms and into the casinos. The effort seems to ")e working.

The Hong Kong show at Bally's has been sold out since February, according to Beatrice Chan of Peter Chan Productions, the New York company producing the show. The company creates eight to 10 shows a year for Atlantic City's Asian-American market and most are sold out, she said. Peter Chan has been bringing Asian-American gamblers to the city with his productions since 1981, when he was vice president of Oriental affairs at the Tropicana. Ms. Chan dates the Asian-American revolution in this city back to Chan's December 1981 Christ bring the act.

The risk is really the risk of the person doing the booking," Medchill said. Medchill said Bally's is interested in the customers that the shows attract to its game rooms. This week's show features two young singers from Hong Kong. Anita Mui and Leslie Cheung are visiting Atlantic City as part of a tour in the United States and Canada. Mui, 22, just came out with a new single on Capitol Records, "Love is Over." In other headline entertainment.
