St. Pe-; tersburg, retired chief clerk, Reading Railroad, Wednesday Uffia Thompson, 05, Former Resident Uffia Thompson, 85, St. Petersburg resident from 1958 to 19C8, died Friday (Jan. 8, 1971) In Friendswood, Tex. A retired electrical sales engineer, Mr.

Thompson was born in Vevay, and lived most of his life in Indianap those that are not delivered. Deputy Assessor John Lusk said cards have carried six cents for years. The assumption was that this much postage was required to assure their return as first-class mail. The saving actually would be less than a penny a card, however, since returns on the five-cent postage cost five more cents while returns on six'cent postage are free. Haines office said 2,000 forms were returned as undeliverable, which would reduce the savings by $100 If a like number of receipts came back.

Times Bureau CLEARWATER Pinel-las taxpayers could have been saved more than by the flick of a knowledgeable finger in the office of Tax Assessor Mac S. Haines. If Haines' postage meter had been set at five cents Instead of six when more than 127,000 receipts for homestead exemption renewals were mailed, the savings could have been greater than $1,270. Five cents buys first-class'postage for the card-form receipts, which carry a statement guaranteeing return postage for he had not actually recommended that the board reject the raises -proposed but simply had informed the board about possible money problems this year. Southard explained that he was referring primarily to the cut in state allocations because of the property tax assessment level in Pinellas County.

"And I don't know how the remaining $150,000 could do that," Black added, referring to financing of the program listed by Mrs. Manson. Black said Southard had promised 21 to remain neutral when the issue of teachers' salaries came up Wednesday as scheduled. But Southard said Thursday olis. Dockerty Thursday proposed a study to determine how service can be extended to the unprotected areas. Dockerty said the County Commission should accept its responsibility and take the initiative In assuring fire protection to all the citizens. He said his remarks were not prompted by a suggestion Wednesday night by State Sen. Henry Sayler, R-St. Petersburg, that a fire protection authority be established for the same purpose.

I Dockerty and Commissioner W. E. "Eddie" Taylor spoke against forming another agency, saying the commission already has the authority. Funeral Notices Board Upholds Elimination Of 2 Bus Routes Pinellas Park parents marched apparently in vain this week to protest the loss of two school buses for Pinellas Central Elementary School. The Pinellas School Board Wednesday decided to stand by a decision of its transpor- tation department, which eliminated the routes Monday. Parents marched along the two-mile route Monday to protest the change, and about 25 of them appeared at Wednesday's meeting to ask the board to reconsider. Board members promised they would keep walkways in safe condition and clear wooded areas close to the road to protect the youngsters.

The board last summer decided not to transport students who live inside a two-mile radius of the school they attend. Bus Operators Age Requirement Lowered The Sir Petersburg Civil Service Commission Thurs-; day lowered the minimum age for bus drivers from 23 to 21. The action had' been' re-, quested by acting transit di-' rector Paul Yingst, who said he felt that some 21-year-olds "have the maturity of judgment and physical to be transit operators.
