BRUNSWICK Irene Dean Kelly, 80, of Thomas Road died Monday at the SummerhiU Nursing Home in Old Bridge.

Born in Richmond Hill, she lived in East Brunswick for four years. She was the wife of Leonard Kelly, who died in 1952. Mrs. Kelly was a communicant of Corpus Christ! R.C. Church, South River.

Before her retirement in 1968, she was a bookkeeper at Fairchild Publications, New York. Surviving are a daughter, Joan La-Porte of East Brunswick; a son, William of Denver, and four grandchildren. Services will be at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow at Rezem Funeral Home, 457 Cranbury Road, with a 9 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi Church.

Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Middle Village, Queens. DEATH NOTICES HIGHLAND PARK Josephine Schwartz Winfield, 88, of South Sixth Avenue died yesterday at the Central New Jersey Home for the Jewish Aged, Franklin. Born in Pottstown. she moved to New Brunswick in 1915, and lived in Highland Park since 1920.

A graduate of the New York School of Business, she was associated with her late husband, Maurice H. Winfield, who died in 1936, in the family real estate and insurance business until her retirement in 1970. She was a former director of the Highland Park Welfare Departments and worked as a caseworker for the Middlesex County Welfare Board from: 1947 to 1961. She was the founder and a past president of the Franklin Junior High School PTA and was a former president of the Lafayette School PTA and New Brunswick High School PTA. In 1927, she instituted the first summer Round-Up Clinic in Middlesex County, During World War II, she 'was a Camp Kilmer hostess and served as secretary to the governing body of the USO, New Jersey chapter.

From 1942 until 1949, she served as treasurer of the New American Refugee Committee. She was a member of the Highland Park Community Welfare Council, the Social Service Exchange and the Rari-tan Valley Federation. She was also a charter member of the Raritan Valley Jewish Home for the Aged and a past president of the Sisterhood of the Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple, East Brunswick. Mrs. Winfield helped found the Highland Park Hebrew School, which grew into the Highland Park' Conservative Temple and Center.

She served as its first president. She was a member of the Brandels Women, the Mary Feller Chapter of Deborah, the Jewish Social Service Commission, the Jewish Family Service Association of Raritan Valley and Hadassah. She served on the board of the Middlesex County Heart Association. She was recording and corresponding secretary for the Middlesex County Visiting Homemakers Association, and was awarded with its first, honorary vice presidency. She served as social action chairman for the Highland Park Conservative Temple Sisterhood, and she was on the Committee on Soviet Jewry.

Surviving are a son, Dr. I. Warren Winfield of Short Hills; two daughters, Grace Schragger of Trenton and Bern-ice Raider of Natick. seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Services were scheduled for 1 p.m.

today at the Highland Park Conservative Temple and Center with Rabbi Yacov R. Hilsenrath officiating. Burial was to be in United Orthodox Synagogue Cemetery, South Plainfield. Shiva will be observed at Dr. Win-field's residence, 10 Spenser Drive, Short Hills.

Born in Pennsylvania, he had lived in Manville and the Belle Mead section of Montgomery before moving to Florida 10 years ago. Backman, 59, of Elm Street in the Somerset section died yesterday at the Foothill Acres Nursing Home in Hillsborough after a long illness. Born in Brooklyn, he lived in Somerset for 25 years. Mr. Backman "was employed as an electrical engineer at Bell Labs in Piscataway for 37 years, retiring in 1978. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Plainfield Division of Disabled American Veterans, and a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Surviving are a son, Gregory of Manville; four daughters, Kathleen McCarthy of East Millstone, Joanne Boyle of South Bound Brook, Bonnie Pearson of Hamilton Square and Diane Back-man of South Bound Brook, and three grandchildren. He worked as a painter, and belonged to the International Brotherhood of Painters Local 385 in New Brunswick and Local 144 in Perth Amboy. Born in New Brunswick, she lived in the city until moving to Pompano Beach seven years ago. While in New Brunswick, she was a member of the Episcopal Church of St. John the Evangelist, and presently was a member of the Episcopal Church of St.

Mary Magdalene in Coral Springs, Fla. Surviving are her husband, Charles C. Winchester; two stepsons, Calvin Winchester of North Brunswick and Theodore G. Winchester in California; a sister, Dorothy F. Barber of Pompano Beach; six grandchildren, and a greatgrandchild.

Sowa, at 65, Bound Brook resident BOUND BROOK Frank J. Sowa, 65, of Thompson Avenue died yesterday at Raritan Valley Hospital, Green Brook, after a brief Illness. Mr. Sowa was bom in Bound Brook and was a lifelong borough resident. He was employed as a custodian by the Bound Brook Board of Education.

A communicant of St. Mary's R.C. Church, he was an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, the former Lillian Stasbak; a daughter, Diane Caprara of Middlesex; three brothers. Joseph of Manville, Chester of Somerville and Walter of Middlesex; two sisters, Veronica Stashak and Alice Lamastra, both of Middlesex, and a grandson.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Friday at the Conroy Funeral Home, 21 E. Second followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church.

Burial will be in Bound Brook John Sabo, Mack retiree, once city resident, at 60 PORT ORANGE. Fla. John Sabo, 60, a former New Brunswick resident, died Sunday at Halifax Hospital, Day-tona Beach. Born in New Brunswick, he lived in Hagerstown, for 16 years before moving to Florida four years ago. He resided on Timbertrail Drive here.

Before his retirement five years ago, Mr. Sabo was employed as a machinist at Mack Motors, Hagerstown. He was a member of Local 171, United Auto Workers. An Army sergeant in World War II, Mr. Sabo was a member of American Legion posts in New Brunswick, Hagerstown and Port Orange.

He also belonged to the American Association of Retired Persons. Surviving are his wife, Lois Wilson Sabo; two daughters, Janet Mnich of Piscataway and Peggy Protko of Day-tona Beach; a brother, Harry of East Brunswick, and three grandchildren. Services will be at 9:45 a.m. tomorrow at the Gowen Funeral Home. 233 Somerset New Brunswick, with a 10 a.m.

Marlene Suliman, at 37, car crash in Hawaii fatal EWA, Hawaii Marlene Suliman, 37, died Saturday in a car accident. Born in Hawaii, she moved to Edison in 1960, then returned to her native state in 1967 and worked as a reservation clerk at Illikaa Hotel, Honolulu. Surviving are her husband, Robert Suliman, and a son, Robert at home.

Arrangements are by the Milli Lani Mortuary, Honolulu. He lived in the township all his life. Mr. Gunia had been employed by the Middlesex Lace South River, and later worked for 13 years as a custodian for the East Brunswick Board of Education, retiring eight years ago. He was a communicant of St. Mary's R.C.

Church, South River. Surviving are his wife, Catherine Drogan Gunia; a sister, Pauline Blaka-itis of Seaside Park, and three brothers, Michael of Perth Amboy, William of Jamesburg and Albert of' South River. Mr. Strada was born in New York and came to Bound Brook 25 years ago. He was a communicant of St. Mary's R.C. Church and a member of Bound Brook Elks Lodge 1388.

An Army veteran of World War II, he was employed as a clerk at the Bound Brook Post Office for 25 years. Surviving are his wife, the former Julie Bourque, and a brother, Fred of Bound Brook. Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Conroy Funeral Home, 21 E. Second followed by a 9:30 a.m.

Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church. Burial will be in Bound Brook Week EDISON Irving Brown, 69, died Monday at home. Born in White Plains, N.Y., he lived in the township since 1951. Mr.

Brown had been an estimator for the Keene Corp. in Princeton, retiring in 1974. His wife, Mary Griffin Brown, died in 1973. Surviving are a son, I. Russell Brown of Metuchen; a daughter, Judith Neuman of Cranbury, and five grandchildren.
