Attired in work clothes, and shouldering shovels, hoes and rakes, the business men worked up an appetite lor a barbecue lunch, by cleaning devil grass and weeds out of iiieir mayor's parkway and fence corners. Furthermore, they whitewashed the fence. When the cleanup crew, headed by Ray Downs, president of the Business Men's Association; Ray Horton, president of the Chamber of Commerce, and W.

(Dick) Spear, chairman of the arrangements committee, had eaten all the barbecued beef, smoked ham, butter, cream, salads and desserts in sight, they were escorted by their host on a tour of the ranch. What the visitors saw were prize Berkshire hogs, purebred cattle, all sorts of garden truck, peacocks, pheasants, squirrels, chipmunks, a wide variety of tropical birds (five of them in Bob's bedroom), and the equipment for a score of hobbies including carpentry, photography, gunnery, pipe-making, tree culture, weaving and microscopy. The visitors learned also that their host, once a peddler, dance hall manager, dock worker, banana roustabout, civil engineer, cafe singer, sergeant in the Marines, hobo, cow- toy, streetcar motorman and coastal boat waiter (not to mention all activities) has bought a sea-going cruiser to go on fishing trips this summer with his wife and three children. (anoga Park Civic Merger Proposed Proposed merger of the Canoga Park Business Men's Association with the Canoga Park Chamber of Commerce will be considered at meeting: of the association called for next Wednesday night, President Ray Downs reported today. Many members of the association think that their program of civic development could better be carried out through a business men's branch of the Chamber, he said.
