The win evened their National Basketball Association playoff series at one game apiece. "It was Larry Bird.

He played a great game. He hit some shots that were just incredible," Cunningham said. Boston Coach Bill Filch said he was not trying to take advantage of Julius Erving's defense by deciding to go to Bird. "We were just trying lo exploit Bird. You don't try to exploit Dr.

Fitch said. "If they have a weakness it's that neither one has the ability to shut the other one off all the time." Fitch said Sunday's game was more physical than Friday night's opener which Philadelphia won 96-33. "If you arc to take this game and break it down on film like we will, you would see a lot more bumping and bumping through picks than in the other game." Fitch went to his bench less frequently than he did throughout the regular season and explained, "it's the playoffs. It's the playoffs. I know there's going to be a time for a bench, but it will be when I'm behind.

I don't want to go to the bench if we're cooking out there." The third game in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference final is scheduled for Wednesday night in Philadelphia.
