Except for 11 penalties that set Rutgers back a total of 88 yards, there was nothing sloppy about the Knights. It was a fitting way to finish a day that had begun three hours earlier when Rutgers held dedication ceremonies for its jiew $8 million athletic center. Senior halfback Mike Fisher of Edison making his 44th consecutive start scored three touchdowns and freshman halfback Lester Johnson of Somerville scored three others while Kennan Startzell converted all nine extra points for the Scarlet. It was a record-smashing day fr the Hawks. The Pioneers will meet Hightstown, By GENE HALEY Home News correspondent SOUTH RIVER It is a good thing for South River that it did not have to rely on its punting game yesterday.

The Rams were just horrible on fourth down in their Central Jersey Group semifinal round game with Asbury Park. Fortunately the 'Rams were good in all other phases of the game and the kicking did not hurt them as they breezed by an outmanned Asbury Park squad, 41-14. The win sends the Rams into the finals on Dec. 3 against unbeaten Red Bank. The Rams faced only six punting situations, but only twice did they get the kick away.

On those two they averaged 14 yards. Two other times the snap was fumbled, one sailed over the punter's head and on another punter Troy Hill elected to run with the ball and wound up losing 11 yards. All of that became mere statistics as the Rams rode the passing arm of Keith Hudak to five touchdowns and left little doubt from the beginning about the eventual outcome. Hudak, who wound up the day with 10 completions in 18 attempts for 156 See, RAMS, page B5 town, they would become the first team in the four-year history of the playoffs to capture consecutive crowns in different groups. Somerville was the Group II winner last year.

Ridge, meanwhile, absorbed its initial setback of the season after entering the contest with a 7-0-1 mark. For Pioneer head coach Jerry Moore, the victory was one which he had to struggle for and one in which he displayed complete confidence in his players. "How can I possibly give up on these kids," he asked? "They haven't given -See, SOMERVILLE, page B5 ANN ARBOR, Mich. The Buck-" eyeV had 208 yards rushing and 144 passing to the Wolverines' 141 and 55. Ohio State completed 13 of 16 passes to Michigan's 3 of 8. But the scoreboard told the only story that really mattered: Michigan 14. Ohio State 6. "It's great to win one like that," said Coach Bo Schembechler.

"I've been down there before when we've gotten all the yards and lost the game." Ohio State's Woody' Hayes called ir "by far the best game we ever played "and lost." Although fifth-ranked Michigan didn't score until last in the first half, the outcome probably was decided in the opening period when Ohio State virtually owned the football.
