REPUBLIC 86 The Arizona Republic Dec. 28, Channel Chuckles By BIL KEANE "I've worked out the guest list for New Year's Eve Dick Van Dyke, Sandy Duncan, Efrem Zimbalist, Colonel ers, Laura Scudder, The Man From Avon Lady CBS to give 'Much Ado' Joseph Papp's New York Shakespeare Festival production of "Much Ado About Nothing," the updated, Americanized version of the witty and ageless Shakespearean comedy which won high praise during its Central Park presentation in August, was taped in New York in October for broadcast on the CBS Television Network Jan. 4. It will be the first of a series of dramatic specials to be produced by Papp under his recently announced long-term agreement with the network. A.

J. Antoon will direct "Much Ado About Nothing," as he did in the park and on Broadway. Assisting him as co-director of the special will be Nick Havinga. Bernard Gerstcn is associate producer. The cast for the special is substantially the same as it was in the outdoor production.

Sam Waterston, whose background with the New York Shakespeare Festival includes key roles from the bard's "As You Like It" to "Hamlet," and Kathleen Widdoes, who won an Obie award for her recent performance as Polly Peachum in; "The Beggar's Opera," repeat their performances as Benedick and Beatrice, and Glenn Walken and Theater World Award-winner April a a repeat theirs as Claudio and Hero. Dogberry, the play's Falstaffian police chief, and his constable cohort Verges are again played by Barnard Hughes and Will McKenzic, respectively. Others from the original cast include Douglass Watson as Don Pedro and Jery Mayer and Frederick Coffin as I he villainous Don John and Borachio. Theaters of Lincoln has announced Ihe purchase of 12 theaters in Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois from the ABC Midwest Theaters of J3cs Moincs. dozen theaters have a total of 13 screens, according to Sage Dubinsky, general manager of Dubinsky giving the firm a total of 52 Screens in theaters in Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, and North Dakota. No purchase price was announced. ABC Midwest is a subsidiary of ABC Theaters, a nationwide subsidiary of the American Broadcasting Corporation.
