Ex-Montana Solon Dies NEWBERG Former U.S. Rep. Scott Leavitt of Montana died at his home in Newberg Thursday. He was 88. Services are pending at Brown Memorial Chapel in Newberg.

Leavitt was a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1923 to 1933, but was unsuccessful for his bid for re-election in 1932. He also lost a U.S. Senate campaign in Montana in 1934. Leavitt was a veteran of the Spanish American War and commander in chief of the United Spanish War Veterans in lived in the Newberg area.

He was a member of the Methodist Church, an active member of the City Park Board and past district governor of Rotary as well as a member of the Newberg Rotary Club. Surviving are a son, Roswell, Missoula, two granchil-dren, and several great grandchildren, 1936-37. He also was a longtime Forest Service employe and served as supervisor of the Lewis and Clark and Jefferson National Forests in Montana. During World War he was director of the U.S. Employment Service and Public Service Reserve in Montana.
