20 THE HOME NEWS NEW BRUNSWICK. N.J., FRIDAIf, JUNE 1, 1071 Pact Probe Urged Garbage A WINNER! Geoffrey Lea, 13, of 24 Tyndall Road, Kendall Park has been awarded the World Globe by The Home News for the question he submitted to the Ask Andy column. Geoffrey, the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Lea is in the seventh grade at Crossroads Jr.

High School. now paying for a total savings of $69,000. That, combined with the four-month extension of the previous contract, would have given the city an overall savings of $100,000, he said. "New Brunswick taxpayers need dollars in our pockets now and for the next three years," he said. "Normal business judgment dictates that long-term contracts with suppliers be avoided, and this axiom is fundamental when a supplier is new and untried," Ferguson said he found it appalling that city officials had "evidenced such a low opinion of the New Brunswick electorate by thinking they could get away with pulling off such a thing with taxpayers' money they are required by law to administer honestly." Ferguson argued the city should have accepted Jersey Sanitation's offer to ex- tend its previous contract until the PUC hands down a decision, in the case.

Had the city continued for four months under the old contract terms instead of signing a contract with a savings of $37,000 would have been realized, he said. He added an investigation should look into why the adm'inistration "would hurry to tie' the city to a five-year contract with a newly formed 'company, despite the possible serious risk to the health of city residents if it were unable to do the work properly." In addition, he said if a three-year agreement had been signed with Jersey Sanitation, thrj price per year would have been $23,000 less than what the city is NEW BRUNSWICK With the results of the city's primary just two days old, independent Robert Ferguson began his campaign against Councilman Robert Schulte for the November election by calling for an investigation into the city's new garbage contract. "The irregularities connected with this whole matter call for an immediate investigation not only by the Public Utilities Commission, but by other state and local investigative agencies as well," Ferguson said. The PUC currently is conducting hearings on the fitness of both Disposal Service the city's new contractor, and Jersey Sanitation the previous contractor, to find if either or both should be awarded a permanent license. Localized Freeholder Sessions Urged Mm to mill Republican Freeholder Francis J.

Coury says he has a plan to bring county government closer to the people hold half the number of freeholder meetings in the county's 25 communities. "I believe many misconceptions about county government are the result of a lack of contact between the Middlesex county government and people in the outlying areas of the county," Coury said in a letter to the board. He suggested the second meeting of each month which is the night meeting be held in a school auditorium or municipal building, which ever cannot accommodate public attendance. The day meeting would still be held in the county administration building in New Brunswick. This would not only bring government closer to the people but "would provide the freeholders the opportunity to discuss, perhaps more specifically, those subjects related to the community in which we are having the meeting," the freeholder said.

Coury asked that a resolution be prepared to allow the change. "I would like to have the decision, yes or no, as a result of the (Democratic) majority's position." Democratic Freeholder Director George J. Otlowski declined comment on the contents of Coury's letter, but said he sent it to County Counsel Herman B. Hoffman "to make some sense of it." Hoffman yesterday said in his opinion the regular business of the county should be conducted in its principal offices, which is the county administration building. He said he would first havs to check state statutes before concluding what the requirement is.

However, he said he did not want to preclude meetings, other than the business meetings, being held away from the county building. i jfKVWYNISl rar ooooooo 9x12 2 RUG 2 ANY RUG ONLY ANY RUG ONLY ANY RUG ONLY with purchase of any remnant o( $80 or higher. 0 JOOOOOOOOO DELUXE SHAG TILES I IhkV Self sticking with heavy rub 591 ber back Sun- Regardless of Original Price Regardless of Original Price Regardless of Original Price snme Drigni coiori iur eveiy -m pjj VALUE DESCRIPTION aecoraung neea. 7 IJiESCRIPTION Avocado Candy Stripe DESCRIPTION VALUE Nylon Candy Stripe $59.00 Red Nylon Tweed 69.00 Blue Nylon Plush 79.00 Deep Pile Avocado Sculpture 79.00 Red Nylon Tweed Blue Green Tweed Blue Plush QUALITY NYLON TWEED HIIIIHIIHHIIIi VALUE $95.00 119.00 115.00 140.00 124.00 135.00 139.00 134.00 134.00 133.00 RUBBER-BACK CARPET -tnri, Red Commercial Tweed Gold Nylon Tweed Avocado Nylon Textured GoliJ Nvlon Hi-Lo s3!
