FRESH FOOTPRINTS A set of fresh footprints led to and from the slaying scene along Saw-grass Creek drainage canal to nearby Gandy Bridge Boulevard 'County Road 15). The bloodhound lead searchers to the road where fresh car tire tracks were found. The blood hound nosed up on another set of fresh tracks angling through woods to an apparent rendezvous spot, leading investigators to theorize at least two people were involved in the brutal shooting.

The fast paced investigation reached out to Orlando as Saunders attempted to locate a man known to have slipped Shelton a check for $700 the slaughterhouse operator was unable to cash. Shelton's sons said their father had three "bad" checks in the missing wallet. Also coming under the investigation spotlight was a poker game Shelton sat in on around 10 days ago. Sheriff's deputies were attempting to round up players in the game for questioning. HUNT FOR WALLET Shelton's sons beat underbrush around the slaying site hunting for the brown leather wallet.

Jimmie Shelton said he once saw his father "count out $21,000" from his wallet. About $G0 in cash, held by a money clip, was found in Shelton's pocket. Another $50 was found in the station wagon glove compartment. Almost $40 in silver dollars was found in a coffee can in the station wagon. Questioned so far in the investigation were Shelton's sons, nearby dairy owner Leon Sellers, and postman James Wells.

It was sellers who said he spotted the gray Cadillac about 6:30 a.m. yesterday. Wells. 4121 18th Ave. told investigators he carried bet money to the Su Petersburg dog track Monday night for Shelton and "hadn't seen him since." Wells said Shelton's btts did not pay off Another Shelton son.
