its lake water or install expensive pumps and canals to the north arm At the same time the Great Salt Lake Minerals and Chemicals Co operating a new plant at Little Mountain on the Weber-Box Elder County line asserts that it would be injured if the balance was changed This concern pumps its water from the north arm already The Southern Pacific is in the middle It built its new lake crossing with full approval of state authorities The governor told one session that he understood the Office of Defense Mobilization directed the engineers to build the two small sluices instead of more or wider openings as a safety precaution So there is federal involvement in the matter Our feeling is that neither the Southern Pacific nor Great Salt Lake Minerals and Chemicals Co should be penalized by having changes forced upon them at this late date Both have acted in good faith in their operations to date There should be some sensible manner in which a compromise could be reached One possibility would be in construction of a few more openings in the SP dike so there could be a partial restoration of the mineral balance If this is done the south shore interests and the state and
