Mrs. Emma M. Van Doren of Garden Apartments, Cherry avenue, died yesterday in Somerset Hospital, Somerville. She was 70 years old. Born in Newark, Mrs.

Van Doren was the widow of John E. Van Doren. She is survived by two sons, William A. and John of Bound Brook, and a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence South, Mrs.

Reynen, Theodore of Ridgewood; of pateisten: and nine, grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p. m. in South Bound Brook Reformed Church, Mrs. Van Doren was a member.

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, he had recently completed study for a master's degree and was a substitute teacher in Bound Brook and Metuchen schools.

He is survived by his parents, Louis Paul and Rose Karshmer; a brother, Robert, of New York City, and a sister, Mrs. Joan Kamber of Baltimore, Md. REV. JOSEPH L. EWING D. D. RAHWAY, Nov.

29-The Rev. Joseph Lyons Ewing, D.D., prominent in the Presbyterian Synod of New Jersey, died yesterday in his home, 1041 Bryant street, on his 86th birthday. He was superintendent of the Anti-Saloon League of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia District, two years. Granted a degree of doctor of divinity by his alma mater in 1924, the Rev. served 16 years as superintendent of National Missions of the New Jersey Synod until he retired 16 as years ago. He commissioner five annual Wameeting of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church and had served as trustee, Presbytery of Elizabeth; trustee, Synod of New Jersey; member, Board of Corporators of Presbyterian Ministers' Fund, and member, advisory board of Beaver College. Known as a writer.

the Rev. Ewing had served as editor of The New Jersey Presbyterian and had written "Ewing Families." Westminster Shorter Catechism-A Key to Holy and many articles in the religious press. He was married first to Belle Marquis of Cross Creek. Pa. Their children are Miss Mary Eleanor Ewing, a Presbyterian missionary in Mexico, and Dr.

Joseph Marquis Ewing, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Barbara, Calif. His second wife, who survives him, is Mrs. Edna McGalEwing, manager of the Easton, office of Eastman, Dillon Co. The Rev. Ewing's body will be at Pettit Funeral Home, 371 West Milton avenue, until noon Monday.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the First Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in Princeton Cemetery. MRS. DENNIS M.

of this place, and 10 grandchildren. Another son, Pvt. Joseph T. Conroy, died in the Mediterranean Theater on November 27, 1943, during World War II. Mrs.

Conroy was a member of Court Gloria 462, Catholic Daughters of America, the Ladies' Auxiliary of Ancient Order of Hibernians and was former vice president of the Parent-Teacher Association of St. Joseph's School. WILLIAM F. COTTRELL NORTH BRUNSWICK, Nov. 29. -William F. Cottrell, 39, of Fleetwood avenue died Thursday at his home after an illness of a few months.

He was born in New Brunswick, son of Benjamin and the late Helen Clark Cottrell, and had been employed 16 years in the heat treating department of Mack Manufacturing Company, now New Brunswick Ordnance Company. He was a member of U.A.W. C.I.O. Local 824. Surviving are his wife, Adeline P.

Genera May Tillyer, 85, former resident of this city, died last night in Lansing, where she lived with a daughter, Mrs. Royal C. Slack. She formerly made her home with another daughter, Mrs. Roy E.

Reed, of Piscatawaytown. Born in Pine Brook, Mrs. Tillyer was the daughter of the late Abram and Mary Tompkins Courter. She was the window of Richard G. Tillyer, and in addition to her daughters is survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Lukas, 50, of 220 First street died last night in Muhlenderg Hospital, Plainfield. A resident of the borough 36 years, was the husband of Marie Kling Lukas. An engineer, Mr. Lukas was employed by Ford, Bacon and Davis Company, New York City. He had formerly worked 33 years for Ransome and Worthington Machine Company.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by the following children, Miss Marie K. Lukas, 1952 graduate of St. Peter's High School, New Brunswick who joined the Order of Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy, Charleston, S. in August; Miss Frances J. Lukas, Miss Margaret Ann and Joseph J.

Lukas, all at home: two sisters, Mrs. Stephen Heldt of this place and Mrs. Daniel Lordem of Philadelphia, and a brother, Stephen C. of Scotch Plains. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Sheenan Funeral Home.

JAMES S. CREE SR. PLAINFIELD, Nov. S. Cree of 8 Leland Gardens died yesterday in Muhlenberg Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, he had been in this country 28 years. Mr. Cree was a foreman the stock room of International- Plainfield Motor Company. A lifelong member of Lodge Plantation 581 of Glasgow, Scotland, Mr. Cree also belonged to Royal Ark Chapter Plantation of Glasgow, and Order of Eastern Star of New Jersey, Crystal Chapter 165.

He was a veteran of service with the British army in World War I. Surviving are his wife, Mary L. McKenzie Cree: three sons, John M. of Stelton: James Jr. and Matthew B.

of this place; six grandchildren: two sisters, Mrs. William McKenzie and Miss Elizabeth Cree, and a brother, Adam, all of Glasgow. Another son Crawford died on November 15. Services will be held Monday at 2 p. m.

BRITISH TRAIN DOGS FOR DUTY IN MALAYA NEW YORK (AP) The British are training 80 dogs at a war dog training school in Malaya for duty against Communists in Korea and Malaya, the British Information Service reports here. Their value for patrol duty and troop morale already has been proved. They are particularly useful in scenting ambushes and in locating non-metallic mines which ordinary detectors cannot discover, according to the report.
