For eight hours German planes in squadrons hundreds strong bombed London last night and this morninp in what may be Adolf Hitler's win or lose gamble to knock Britain out of the war. Continued torrents of demolition and incendiary bombs, loosed from German air armadas imperiled the royal palaces and government buildings, started numerous fires in industrial and residential sections, disrupted public service and killed or wounded countless men, women and children. The alarm which sounded at 8:32 p.m. Saturday (2:32 p.m., EST) finally endejd at 4:50 a.m. today (10:50 p.m.

The British claim 65 German raiders were shot down against 18 British craft lost. Two British fliers were safe. Germany claimed 87 British planes had been shot down during the day and only 26 Nazi ships.

The German wireless last night warned the German people to expect "heavv sacrifices" as a result of the London raid, presumably in counter-attacks by British bombers. "The German air force is celebrating one of the greatest victories in history," Nazi sources said. "It is a great triumph at a small cost." These sources said that British anti-aircraft guns had been "virtually useless" against German planes, and that the attack was continuing with full force through the nijiht. "It is the beginning of the end," one Nazi informant said. The Babcock Aircraft corporation was incorporated May 12, 1939, under the laws of the state of Florida with an authorized capitalization of $150,000. It is wholly a Florida company, according to Maj. Foster, owned and operated by Florida people. Maj.

Foster, president, has been associated with the development of aviation since 1911. Since 1927, when he sold out his interest in a large advertising agency, to engage in technical research, connected with the development of a more practical and efficient fuel for aircraft engines, practically his entire time has been devoted to some phase of the aircraft industry. For more than two years Maj. Foster directed a program of fuel research in co-operation with Dr. See FACTORY, Page 4, Col.

Production of airplanes and airplane engines is scheduled to start by Oct. 1 in the former Gospel Tabernacle building at Tenth street and Fifth avenue south, which the corporation has leased as a temporary factory site. Within a year, the company plans to build a modern plant on St. Petersburg airport facilities, Spooner said.

Approximately 300 planes and 500 aircraft engines are scheduled for production during the first year of manufacture, Maj. Foster said. By Sept. 15, the Babcock corporation will have moved 35 key employes from DeLand to set up a production line at the local plant, preparatory to the start of manufacture Oct. 1, the announcement said.

By May 1, according to Maj. Foster, the num-ber of employes will reach 150, necessitating from 50 to 75 homes here for their accommodation. The famed riflemen of the south's mountain areas couldn't have done any better than members of this British barrage balloon ground crew. The Britons, with rifles, shot down a German plane after the Nazi pilot had sent the big gas bag whirling downward in flames. Here's the feat in pictures. Above a Messerschmitt hovers over the balloons as the latter begins to plunge to earth over the southeast coast of England. As the plane circled over the burning balloon the ground crew went into action (middle picture).

The Mackenzie arrived here yesterday, apparently to be prepared for its transfer to Great Britain in the trade of destroyers for western hemisphere plane and naOal bases.

The officer said that every precaution was being taken "in case it spreads," but he added "so far it is under control." Only one alarm was sounded for the fire, the fire department reported. A fireboat was rushed to the scene, along with three engine companies and two rescue companies. A heavy guard was placed around the pier and even newsmen and photographers were barred. Several other ships some of them destroyers were believed nearby. An officer at the Navy yard said a crew was aboard the ship at the time the fire broke out.

He said the blaze was "belpw deck but I can't give you any more information." The fire, he said, was "of undetermined origin." An indication that an immediate investigation was launched came in the fact that the commandant of the Navy yard was reported "aboard'' the This action was taken yesterday when Councilman George Hopkins threw a called meeting into confusion by refusing to sign a waiver for the meeting at which bids were to have been received. Before leaving the room, Hopkins declared: "I don't believe in a special meeting on a matter of this kind and I will not sign the waiver. What I have said here during these previous sessions apparently has had no weight and if you please I will ask to be excused." Turning to City Attorney Carroll Runyon for advice, the remaining six council members were told: "You cannot officially act on this matter today. It would be up to the bidders as to whether they would hold their proposals for formal confirmation at the next regular meeting of council.
