FAMILY TREES The Star-Herald, Kosciusko, January 5, 1978 11 'Fifty Families' Ready For Genealogy Buffs By NANCY PARKES Of interest to thousands of descendants throughout Mississippi is the news of "Fifty Families, A compiled by Nancy Chambers Underwood. A major. genealogical study with linage charts of the major families, it is the result of 10 years work by professional genealogists and many family members. The book is completely footnoted with sources and fully indexed. It is hard bound; over 550 pages, including 32 pages of pictures; and contains the histories of 18 Revolutionary War Patriots, including one female.

Some of the families included are Underwood, Settle, Bateman, Watt, Crook, Dickson, McEwen, McKisick, Smith, Grogaard, Matthews, Langhorne, Miller, Macon, Owen, Fortson, Chambers, Henry, Steele, Ross, Postelle, Moore, McWillie, Prichard, Vardaman, Foster, Myers, Stovall, Galtney, Cockerham, Stone, Estes, Dobbs, Jolley, McPhail, McDonald, Bolling, Farrar, Barnes, Williams, and the fascinating RidgeCherokee Indian family. Johnson, and General Delivery, Ackerman, Miss. 39735, is searching for family and ancestors of Mary Earl Magdalene Patterson, born Ethel, 1905 in Texas, died 1944 in Meridian, Miss. Around 1910 John Mary came to Mississippi Mr. from Texas and lived with a from Mrs. a with Franks family in the Pontotoc area until she married Watson Donald (Buddy) Tunnell of Troy, Miss.

Mary's death certificate lists her parents as James and Mary Galloway Patterson from Texas, city unknown. Any info will be appreciated. Henry B. Nabers, 1405 Stanley, Sweetwater, Texas 79556, is trying to find parents, brothers, sisters, of Isaac and Robert P. Caradine-Carradine-Carodine who arrived in Sabine County, Texas, in 1827-1829 from Mississippi.

Where were they born, etc. Have much other Caradine info to share. Goss, 7985 SW 17 Miami, Fla. 33155, is interested in the life and origins of Benjamin Goss who lived in Tishomingo County, Mississippi in 1870s and 1880s, (Descendants still live there.) Colbert County, in 1890s and died at Riverlong, Colbert County in 1901. First wife was Nancy Steel; second wife was Florence Williams; and third was Maggie McCrory.

He had a total of nine children. Jewel Johnson, Rt. 6, Box 26A, Tylertown, Miss. 39667, would like to hear from anyone connected with the John Adams family who were in Marion County, in the early 1800s. Daughters were Delana who married John Strong Cordelia who married Reason Burns; Winney who married Louis Jackson; Annie who married Thomas Gibson; Annis who married a Jones; Hester who married Elijah Walker.

A son, Anderson Adams, was married to Minerva Need John Adams' wife and parents' names. Ed Barnes, 1207- 28th St. SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52403, wishes to contact descendants of Patrick McNeill who died in a train accident in Jackson, in February, 1889, at 35 years of age. He left a widow and son. "My branch of the McNeill family settled in Clayton County, Iowa.

and Mrs. Allen Dorsey of Kosciusko, died Wednesday morning at his home following an illness of several years. He was a victim of leukemia. He was a fourth grade student at Kosciusko's West Side Elementary School and had attended classes for about six weeks at the beginning of the fall school term. Funeral services were to be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m.

at Nowell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Blackwell as the officiating minister. Burial was to be in Parkway Cemetery. Besides his parents he leaves a sister, Miss Pamela Dorsey of Kosciusko; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.

James H. Dorsey of Kosciusko, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Hunt of McCool and his great-grandmother, Mrs. Lummie Morgan, also of McCool.

Jerry Slonaker, and Mrs. Slonaker spent from Friday night until Monday with Mrs. Slonaker's mother, Mrs. Vera Robbins, at Bassfield. Their son, Clark, from Laurel came to spend Saturday with them.

On Monday they were dinner guests of another son, Randy Slonaker, and family at McComb. Mrs. Virgie Proctor spent Christmas Day and night with her sister, Mrs. Draper Proctor, at Ethel. Mr.

and Mrs. Wayne Proctor from Parchman, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Mitchell from Pet Ross said that for several years the larger varieties of hogs were common in the area, but they are rare these days. He guessed his hog will produce 80 pound hams, not to mention the chittlins.

News Vicksburg, Mrs. Bill Dees from Pickens visited Mrs. Virgie Proctor during the holidays. Coy Mitchell from Columbus, Mr. and Mrs.

Percy Mitchell from Vicksburg, Mrs. Virgie Proctor spent awhile with Mrs. Hattie Mitchell during the holidays. Mrs. Burvie Tally spent several days with Mrs.

Mitchell last week. Miss Lynn Perry Sallis, Bruce Shuler from Ethel visited Kenny Nowell during the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Womble, Billy and Vickie spent a week with their daughter and sister, Mrs.

Phillip Gulmy, and family in Hawthorne, N. J. Miss Vickie Womble has completed her college work at Delta State University and will graduate in May. Our granddaughter, Sharon Lentz, finished high school in Baton Rouge, at midterm and will also graduate in May. Congratulations to these two young girls and best wishes for a long successful life.

James Allen, and other relatives. Charles Allen and Wayne visited mother and grandmother on New Year's Day. We are sorry to hear Mrs. Ida Cook and Boyd Wade are in the hospital. Let's all remember them in our prayers.

Ryle Prevost was carrying his mother, Mrs. Attie Prevost, home to Cleveland after she had spent Christmas with them. He was killed in a car accident and his mother was injured and died Friday night. He was buried at Utica and she was buried at Ruleville. She is an aunt of Mrs.

John D. Hopkins. Sympathy is extended to all loved ones. Mr. and Mrs.

Thomas Ward and Jimmy from Raleigh spent the week with parents and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Parish. Mr. and Mrs.

Charlie Earl Hopkins and girls from Ethel, Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Hopkins, Holly and John Heath from Memphis, Mr. and Mrs. Barry Hopkins from Kosciusko, Mr.

and Mrs. Kenny Hopkins enjoyed a Christmas Eve supper with parents and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John D. Hopkins.

Mr. and Mrs. John D. Hopkins visited her dad, Earl Pace, and sister, Mrs. Robert Ford, and Mr.

Ford at Kosciusko on Christmas Day for dinner. Another sister, Mrs. Clarence Blaine, from Jackson joined them for the day. Mr. and Mrs.

Melvin McDaniel spent New Year's Day in Kosciusko with their daughter, Mrs. Peggy Skelton and boys. Mr. and Mrs. Pete Moak and Bill spent the New Year's weekend with friends and relatives in north Louisiana.

Arnold Milner from Lexington visited his aunt, Mrs. Blanche Milner, during the holidays. Her New Year's Day visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Walker, Mrs.

Lucille Walker and Miss Janet Walker from Belzoni.
