Snrmtv Babysitters Graduate The Hillsdale Jaycee Auxiliary held the final session of the babysitting clinic, with 49 girls completing the course. The exam was given, and refreshments were served. The four-week course consisted of sessions on fire safety by George Whitson; general information about sitting conducted by the auxiliary; infant care and first aid by Mrs. Peg Burkhardt; and entertaining young children by Elizabeth Dickinson. Auxiliary committee members were Mrs.

Bruce Green, Mrs. Lance Benzing, Mrs. Melvin Reed, Mrs. Duane Wagner, Mrs. Trefftzs and Mrs.

Arnold Lovelette. Ambassador Is Club Speaker The Hillsdale Club met in the Hillsdale State Savings Bank community room. Sheree Quimby, Hillsdale County Good Will Ambassador showed slides and told about her two-month stay in Japan. She displayed a Japanese doll, pottery, handmade kimono and wooden shoes.

She described many temples and gardens, and to her surprise, she found she enjoyed their food, which consisted mainly of rice, fish, vegetables, fruit and ice cream. Two new members, Mrs. Ted Keating and Mrs. Charles Pontius, were welcomed into the dub. Mrs.

Hillsdale is one of four districts in the state using the materials, which are being field tested for the publisher. Hillsdale Daily is sponsoring a current-events education program by Visual Education Consultants. The program, which utilizes mainly filmstrips and quizzes printed weekly in the newspaper, is offered to students from the fifth through twelfth grades and will continue through the school year.

GullyChecks Police Pay Paul Gully, business agent for Teamsters Local 214, of which the Hillsdale City Police are members, is in the city today and may be for two more days if necessary. Gully is conferring with City Attorney Lewis Loren to negotiate the balance of the 1973 contract for the police officers and dispatchers.

Also under review is the back pay which has been received by police. That pay dates back to July 1, 1971 and Gully is here to assure that no mistakes were made on individual payments. Personals Twenty-seven children listened to three stories at the recent Mitchell Story Hours. They also sang a few songs. A. Lawrence Gagnon, has announced that the office will be open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday especially for people who wish to pick up absentee ballots for the Nov. 15 millage election.

Ballots can also be picked up weekdays up to Nov. 13, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The completed ballots must be returned to the same office by 2 p.m. Nov.

The school district is mailing an election fact booklet to all residents of the school district, according to Gagnon. Residents are requested to call the office for any further information. Eight-tenths of one mill operating revenue for a three- year period is at stake in the election.

Open Bids For Project A highway project in Hillsdale County will be among those on which bids will be taken in Lansing on Nov. 21State Representative John P. Smeekens (R-Coldwater) announced today. The Hillsdale County project will include 17.5 miles of bituminous concrete surfacing on US-12 from US-127 to near M-99 in Jonesville. The estimated completion date is June, 1974 and estimated project cost is $530,000.

This particular project will be one of 27 highway projects with a total estimated cost of 8.6 million on which the State Highway Commission bill be taking bids. Burd Named Principal Robert Burd, fifth and sixth grade teacher at Jefferson School in Coldwater the past three years, has been named principal of Washington Elementary School there. Burd has had 12 years of teaching experience five and a half as grade 4-5 teacher at Hillsdale, and 2 and a half years as director of ESEA Title I project, including instructional media in Hillsdale and three years in the Coldwater system. He and his wife, Alberta, reside at 163 S. West Hillsdale where she operates a yam shop.

He paid a $35 oversight probation fee; was placed on probation for one year during which time he is to report monthly to the probation officer beginning in January; when reporting he is to pay $5 per month; and he is not to violate any Michigan law. Beach also appeared on a littering charge for which he paid a fine and court costs of $91.50. Eugene Gary, 36, of 119 Elm Reading, paid $129 for operating an overweight vehicle. A charge of attempting to flee a police officer against Robert Lowell Ftisk, 23, of 156 W. Chicago Allen, was dismissed.
