Children will construct MAROLYN PLUMMER By LORNA CARROLL If you don't believe the world is full of many things, "of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings," ask these young writers, Marolyn Plummer and Vaughn Platzer, whose column, "Of Cabbages and Kings," appears in more than 25 newspapers throughout New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Ohio. On thc-ir tour of the United States, they have stopped for a breath of salt air at Lido Beach, and for Festival of States material for their future columns. There is nothing trite or ordinary about these young women, whose careers as artists and writers send them to the four corners of the United States. Interviewed, they act as each other's press agents.

Says blond and blue-eyed Marolyn, "Vaughn's the business brains of this set-up. She is a marvel at making bills and budgets meet." Spv -nib-im-haired. brown-eyed Vaughn, "Marolyn's the artistic half of our combination. She's a free lance designer of a orts clothes, an accomplished dancer, a coming novelist with a best seller already tucked in the corner of her mind." The girls base their activities in New York city, where they move in a glamorous circle of movie and staee authors and painters. From this stimulating atmosphere they gather much material for their column.

Two years ago, after an almost (lifelong friendship, they decided to introduce "Of Cabbages and Kings," First papers to publish their copy were the McKean County Democrat and the Mount Jewett Echo. the floats and workmanship will be Judged for its beauty and and figuratively stir up our own tempest. Traveling west last year we ran into a sand storm, a dust storm, a hurricane and a flood. They made exciting reading material. We have lived In practically every large city in the United States and have wrung them dry for copy." Vaughn, as explained by Marolyn, Is a member of the Victor McLaglen light horse troop, whicli means she's tops in horsemanship.

Marolyn, according to Vaughn, Is an able cartoonist with a mind as scintillating as a Fourth of July sparkler. One learns also that Vaughn's deepest Interest is her young son, Donald, age 11, who attends Oakland Military academy in New Jersey; that she is taking a course in flying; will study airplane mechanics upon her return to New York city, and that her ambition is to make enough money to retire and raise saddle horses on a southern California ranch. Marolyn's unguarded secret Is her unpublished book of poems and her desire to become a really fine novelist. In short, the girls declare they are trying to slip in the back door of journalism, but judging from their accomplishments they already have entered via a wide-open front entrance, over a doormat spelling "Welcome."
