The Daily home news Just a Little Touch of Home Helps Cheer RUSSIA BOYCOTTS AIR PARLEY HERE Anna Rationing Si New Brunswick Soldier in DE GAULLE FACES INTERNAL CRISIS Order Disarming Patriotic Militia Draws Strong Protests PARIS, Oct. 30 (Predictions of nation-wide demonstrations accented today an incipient crisis precipitated by the De Gaulle government's action in forbidding everyone except the regular army and police to bear arms. The order, apparently directed at Communist partisan elements who have defied the government's authority, particularly in southern France, met instant opposition from the influential National Resistance Council, brains of the French underground during the German ocupation. The council declared that the Patriotic; Milice -'(militia) an anti-Vichy guerrilla organization largely Communistic should be given legal status, and questioned the government's right to decide the future of the militia without consulting the council. At a conference with a delegation from the council De Gaulle said the government would insist that the decree be respected.

What caught attention, however, was the demonstration of a firm Soviet policy toward Spain, which had troops fighting for the Germans in Russia, and toward Switzerland, which does not recognize Russia. Portugal presumably was lumped in with Spain. Apparently the development forebodes stern Moscow opposition to the Franco regime as an important factor in the future diplomacy of western Europe. The scene is a quiet ward in an English hospital. On one of the many identical cots lies an American soldier.

He has been wounded in action, and is recovering from a front line surgical operation. But he is smiling as he writes a letter home to friends in Ney Brunswick. His name is Pfc. Jim-mie L. Vitaliano.

You may remember Jimmie. He was that Western Union boy you always saw around town. He was smiling then, too, long before he joined the 79th Division and was sent overseas to fight the Nazis. Writes Hi 'Best Friends Jimmie's letter arrived in New Brunswick today, and was delivered to us here at the Daily Home News. We thought you'd like to look over our shoulder while we read it: "While being shuttled from field hospital to Evacuation Station, I paused long enough at one field hospital to run into a character well known in your environment," Jimmie wrote.
