GAMES: Robert Morris gave up 271 yards rushing to Sean Mayers, but the Colonials' defense also forced five interceptions and managed to beat St. Peter's 23-12. Despite Mayers' heroics, St. Peter's (1-7) trailed the entire game. Quarterback Adam Knoblauch was 16 of 29 for 269 yards and three touchdowns to give Delaware Valley (8-0) a 35-14 victory over FDU-Florham.

Knoblauch threw touchdown passes of 14 and 21 yards in the second quarter and a 59-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. Knoblauch scored two additional touchdowns off a 4-yard run in the second quarter and a 2-yard run in the third quarter. Quarterback P.J. Matthews threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Corey Doe with only 23 seconds left in the game, allowing Mount Ida to overcome William Paterson 34-27. Mike Orihel threw for 372 yards and four touchdowns, including the winning pass in overtime, to lead Rowan to a 39-33 win over Brockport.

Orihel ran for a two-yard touchdown, and threw four scoring passes including a 34-yard pass to Dustin Katcher, a 12-yard pass to Sakeen Wright, a 53-yard pass to Phil Silva and the 21-yard pass to Wright to break the 33-33 tie in overtime. THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Ryan Kuhn threw for 208 yards and two touchdowns and Cornell held on to beat Princeton 21-20 yesterday. Brian Romney had five catches for 114 yards and two TDs for Cornell (2-5, 2-2). Chad Nice added four catches for 142 yards and one TD. Matt Verbit completed 19 of 39 passes for 260 yards and one TD to lead the Tigers (4-3, 2-2).

Romney's 54-yard TD catch from Kuhn opened the scoring with 8:52 left in the first quarter. Princeton answered with four-play drive capped by Bill Foran's 80-yard touchdown reception. Romney got his second TD on a 24-yard pass from Kuhn to open the second half scoring. Nice's 79-yard TD catch from D.J. Busch gave Cornell a 21-7 lead with 3:32 left in the third quarter.

Jon Veach scored on a 3-yard run on Princeton's next possession and the Tigers pulled within one on Greg Field's 6-yard TD rush with 6:48 left in the game. But Matt Pollock blocked the extra point attempt to preserve the victory for the Big Red. MONMOUTH 9, CENTRAL CONNECTICUT ST. 6: Steve Andriola hit a 29-yard field goal as time ran out to give Monmouth a victory over Central Connecticut State. Monmouth (8-1) started its game-winning drive when linebacker Mike Castellano hit Central Connecticut quarterback Scott Dolch as he threw, and the short, fluttering pass was intercepted by linebacker Dan Blazosky with 2:54 left.

The Hawks took over at the Blue Devils' 46-yard line, and the nine-play drive ended with Andri-ola's third field goal of the game. Conner Barth booted a 42-yard field goal on the final play of the game, giving North Carolina a shocking 31-28 upset of the fourth-ranked Hurricanes last night. When Miami called a timeout just before the kick, fans began lining the hedges just outside the sidelines in preparation for the celebration. The ball flew just inside the left upright, and soon the field was covered with people. Both goal posts went down within minutes of Barth's field goal. Darian Durant led the Tar Heels (4-4, 3-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) on a 65-yard drive for the winning points, completing all four passes and getting the final 5 yards on a keeper up the middle.

He finished 21-for-29 for 266 yards and two touchdowns, and Chad Scott overcame an injured hip to rush for a career-high 175 yards Miami (6-1, 3-1) trailed by seven points with 5:24 left, but Brock Berlin drove his team 89 yards to tie it. Devin Hester went in on a sweep from the 4, setting up the final possession for Durant and North Carolina. Berlin was 20-for-35 for 338 yards and two touchdowns, but the Hurricanes had only 77 yards rushing, the first time all season they've failed to reach 100. NO. 2 OKLAHOMA 38, NO.

20 OKLAHOMA STATE 35: Adrian Peterson rushed for 249 yards and Oklahoma State kicker Jason Ricks missed a tying 49-yard field goal with 11 seconds left, allowing Oklahoma to barely avoid another season-spoiling upset by the Cowboys. Mark Bradley caught a career-high three TD passes as the second-ranked Sooners beat their pesky rivals yesterday. Oklahoma (8-0, 5-0 Big 12) has won two straight over the No. 20 Cowboys (6-2, 3-2) since losing two costly games in the Bedlam series in 2001 and 2002. Peterson had an 80-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that put Oklahoma up 35-21 and a 56-yarder on his next carry that broke the school freshman rushing record of 1,184 yards set by De'Mond Parker in.

1996. Peterson now has eight consecutive 100-yard games and 1,278 yards this year. MARYLAND 20, NO. FLORIDA ST. 17: Joel Statham threw for 333 yards and ran for a score for the Terrapins.

Florida State (6-2, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) came in with a six-game winning streak and a 14-0 record against Maryland (4-4, 2-3), which had totaled just 17 points in losing three straight conference games. The pass came from backup quarterback Brandon Kirsch, who replaced one-time Heisman Trophy favorite Kyle Orton at the end of the third quarter.

NO. 23 IOWA 23, ILLINOIS 13: Drew Tate threw a pair of 19-yard touchdown passes to Ed Hinkel and added a 5-yard run for a score, sending the mini to their 14th straight Big Ten loss. Tate's run capped a 16-point third quarter that helped break open a 7-7 game for the Hawkeyes (6-2, 4-1). He finished 24-of-34 for 243 yards and had one interception. Hinkel caught five passes for 108 yards.

INDIANA 30, NO. 24 MINNESOTA 21: Indiana's Will Lumpkin returned an interception 42 -yards for a touchdown and Matt LoVe-cchio threw for two scores as the Hoosiers scored 23 unanswered points for the upset. The victory ended Indiana's five-game losing streak. NO. 10 GEORGIA 31, FLORIDA 24: David Greene threw three touchdown passes, including a big one in the fourth quarter, as the Bulldogs snapped a six-game losing streak against rival Florida.

The Bulldogs (7-1, 5-1 Southeastern Conference) scored touchdowns on their first three possessions eliminating whatever emotional edge the Gators might have had from this week's firing of coach Ron Zook. NO. 11 TENNESSEE 43, SOUTH CAROLINA 29: Erik Ainge threw three touchdown passes as Tennessee overcame early offensive problems to win its 12th straight over South Carolina. Cedric Houston added a career-high 190 yards rushing and a TD as the Vols (7-1, 5-1 SEC) rolled past the Gamecocks (5-3, 3-3), who were thought to be Tennessee's last real roadblock to the Southeastern Conference title game. The Vols have beaten Georgia and only must get past league doormats Kentucky and Vanderbilt next month to get to the Georgia Dome on Dec.

NORTHWESTERN 13, NO. 17 PURDUE 10: Noah Herron ran 3 yards for a touchdown with 38 sec EAST Syracuse defense turns back Huskies first touchdown pass of the season, a 16-yarder to Chauncey Stovall with 7:43 remaining that made it 20-17. 12 MICHIGAN 45, MICHIGAN STATE 37 (30T): Braylon Edwards caught two touchdown passes to help Michigan erase a 17-point deficit in just 5:44 of the fourth quarter and then grabbed a third TD in triple overtime to lift the Wolverines. No. 12 Michigan (8-1, 6-0 Big Ten) moved a half-game ahead of idle Wisconsin in the conference and kept its hopes alive for a Bowl Championship Series bid. The Spartans (4-4, 3-2) had a chance to win at Michigan Stadium for the first time since 1990, but could not hold a 27-10 lead with 8:43 left. Edwards caught 11 passes for 189 yards.

Freshman Chad Henne was 24-of-35 for 273 yards with four TDs. Michigan's Michael Hart had 33 carries for 224 yards his third straight 200-yard game and a TD, but limped off the field during the first overtime. The Spartans were without standout quarterback Drew Stanton after he hurt his shoulder late in the first half. DeAndra Cobb scored on a 72-yard run early in the first quarter and on a 64-yard run to put the Spartans ahead by 17 points midway through the fourth quarter. Cobb finished with 205 yards on 22 carries.

NO. 8 TEXAS 31, COLORADO 7: Vince Young got a couple of bad throws out of his system early and No. 8 Texas rolled from there, getting 141 yards rushing from Cedric Benson. Benson and Young ran for a pair of touchdowns apiece, linebacker Aaron Harris and safety Michael Griffin combined on a pair of turnovers and the Longhorns (7-1, 4-1 Big 12) stayed in the running for a BCS bowl by winning their third straight since losing to Oklahoma. James Pinkey threw three touchdown passes to Bobby Good to help East Carolina beat Army 38-28, ending the Black Knights' first winning streak in seven years. Army (2-5, 2-4 Conference USA) snapped a 19-game losing streak earlier this month with a victory over Cincinnati, then beat South Florida before taking a weekend off.

Last year, the Black Knights set an NCAA record for futility by losing all 13 games. But Army couldn't make it three in a row. The Pirates (2-5, 2-3) piled up 462 yards of offense and forced two clutch turnovers in the second half. Marvin Burroughs passed for two touchdowns and ran for another, leading Villanova to a 48-9 win at Rhode Island. Villanova (6-3, 3-3 Atlantic 10) recovered six of Rhode Island's 10 fumbles, reeling off 48 unanswered points to run away with the win.

Ryan Fitzpatrick threw a 20-yard touchdown to Brian Edwards and Matt Schindel kicked two field goals to lift unbeaten Harvard (7-0, 4-0 Ivy) to a victory over winless Dartmouth. Pat McDermott's passing sparked a late rally, capped by Sam Matthews' 2-yard touchdown run with 49 seconds left, as Penn extended its Ivy League record for consecutive league wins with a 20- 16 victory over Brown. It was the 19th straight Ivy victory for the Quakers (6-1, 4-0), whose last league loss was to Harvard in November 2001. Derric Daniels threw three touchdown passes in Fordham's 36-6 rout of Georgetown.Daniels, who had an interception returned for a touchdown on the first play of the game, finished 13 of 31 for 145 yards for the Rams (5-3, 2-1 Patriot). Rudy Arcara ran for a school-record 313 yards and two touchdowns to help Iona edge La Salle 42-35.

Arcara's 1-yard run with 10 minutes left broke a tie, and the Gaels (2-6, 1-2 Metro Atlantic) held on to win. Nicholas Bazan rushed for 222 yards and three touchdowns as Albany rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat Wagner 35-27. Yale safety Matt Handlon deflected a pass intended for Columbia tight end Wade Fletcher in the left corner of the end zone with 37 seconds left to preserve a 21- 14 win. Tim Day passed for four touchdowns and L.A. Love blocked an extra-point attempt in overtime as Massachusetts slipped past Maine 35-34.

The teams were tied at 28 at the end of regulation. Niel Loebig threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Bruce Hocker and Duquesne's defense yielded just 110 yards as the Dukes beat Marlst 7-3. Quarterback Daris Wilson ran for 252 yards and scored five touchdowns in Bucknell's 42-27 win at Holy Cross. Steven Silva gained 224 total yards for Holy Cross (1-7, 0-4). Anton Clarkson threw five touchdown passes, three to Devale Ellis, in Hofstra's 48-17 rout of Richmond.

Clarkson connected on 22 of 34 passes for 323 yards for the Pride (4-4, 2-3 Atlantic 10). THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Perry Patterson threw for two touchdowns, Walter Reyes ran for two more and the Syracuse defense forced five turnovers to beat Connecticut 42-30 yesterday. Archrivals in basketball, it was the first meeting between the teams in football and it was especially critical for Syracuse (4-4, 2-1 Big East) and its postseason hopes. Connecticut (5-3, 2-3) lost despite gaining 566 yards and 35 first downs. UConn quarterback Dan Orlovsky threw for 445 yards and three touchdowns and completed a school-record 39 passes.

He also broke the Connecticut career passing yards record of 9,288 set by Matt DeGennaro from 1987-90. Orlovsky has 9,715. The Huskies were done in by the turnovers and a little Syracuse luck. Patterson hit a 36-yard Hail Mary pass to Andre Fontenette for a touchdown as time had expired in the first half to give the Orange 3 2120 lodd Anthony Smith made it 28-20 when he intercepted Orlovsky's first pass of the second half off a deflection and returned it 32 yards for a score. After a 48-yard field goal by Matt Nuzie moved UConn within 28-23, Patterson hit Jared Jones over the middle for a 29-yard score with 34 seconds left in the third.

Patterson's 13-yard scramble set up a 3-yard TD run by Reyes midway through the fourth. NAVY 34, DELAWARE 20: Aaron Polanco ran for three touchdowns and threw for another as Navy beat Delaware. The win kept the Midshipmen (7-1) undefeated at 5-0 at home this season. Navy has won seven straight at home, their last home loss coming last Nov. 1 to Delaware.

Polanco, the nation's top rushing quarterback, scored on runs of 22, 1 and 7 yards for the third three-touchdown game of his career. He gained 64 yards on 15 carries and also threw a 6-yard scoring pass to Eric Roberts. Elsewhere Ted Ginn returned a punt 67 yards for a touchdown and Tyler Everett ran back an interception for another score to lead Ohio State to a 21-10 win over Penn State. Ginn's return and Everett's TD in the first quarter gave the Buckeyes (5-3, 2-3) an almost insurmountable lead against an Penn State offense that was last in the conference in scoring and turnover margin. Penn State (2-6, 0-5) lost its fifth game in a row.

The Nittany Lions lost six consecutive games just last season. Ricky Santos completed 16 of 27 passes for 230 yards, ran for a -touchdown and caught a pass for a score to lead New Hampshire past Northeastern, 27-23. Santos scored on a one-yard run and caught a 21-yard pass from Hassan Noble. Eric Rath rushed for 94 yards and a go-ahead touchdown and Julian Austin picked off a pass at the goal line to preserve a 21-14 Lehigh win over Colgate.
