LINCOLN STATE JOURNAL, MONDAY, JANUARY 2, 1933 THIRTEEN You Can't Find What You Want, Use the Want Ads for Results Uncle Wiggily's Big Horn (By Howard R. Garis.) The day after the New Year of 1933, when it came Ni live in Uncle Wiggily's DOn bungalow, the rabbit, gentleman, who had been up late the night before, hopped out to get some fresh air. "Well," said Mr. Longears as he hopped along. twinkling his pink nose, "I hope I have as much fun in this new year as I did in the old one.

I certainly had some jolly adventures in 1932." He felt so happy as he thought of his adventures that he twinkled his pink nose. Seeing which, ed little Snow Bug, who was crawling along the path, asked: "Could you give me a light, Mr. Rabbit?" "A light!" exclaimed Uncle Wiggily, what cigar?" the Snow Bug. "I Why aren't, you smoking see a red light near your nose and surely smoke is coming out of your mouth." "Ha! Ha! Ha!" laughed Uncle Wiggily as he saw what a mistake the Snow Bug had made. "That red light you see is my pink nose twinkling and the smoke is my warm breath being changed to fog in the cold air." "Oh, 80 it is!" whispered the Snow Bug.

"But why did you want light?" asked Mr. Longears. "It isn't dark yet." "I want a light to make a fire so I may warm myself," said the Snow Bug. "I'm cold." "Oh, I'll help you make a spoke the rabbit gentleman. He had some matches and, finding some dried leaves and sticks inside hollow log, soon made fire for the cold Snow Bug who sat warmed his one after the on near it.

and pebbles other. "Thank you, Uncle Wiggily!" murmured the Snow Bug as the rabbit gentleman hopped on his way. "You are quite welcome," answered Mr. Longears, and he twinkled his pink nose more brightly than before and blew out great clouds what looked like smoke. All of a sudden, as Mr.

Longears hopped over the fields, thru the woods, up hill and down hill, he saw near the edge of 8 frozen brook a large horn. Oh, it WAS very big horn of shiny brass. The sort of a horn the man in the band has to get inside of before he can carry it in the parade. "There's an umpity ump horn!" exclaimed Uncle Wiggily, as soon as he saw it. "That's the big horn that was blowing last night keeping me awake because of the New Year.

I wonder who was blowing it Uncle Wiggily looked all around and up and down the frozen brook but he saw no one who might have been blowing the big New Year horn. "I guess whoever was blowing it," said the rabbit got tired and went home, leaving the horn here. But I'd like to find out 3o I'll wait and see if they come who owns this umpity ump horn. a Jack." Uncle Wiggily sat down on a stump near the big horn, but soon the cold wind began to blow and Mr. Longears was chilly.

He WAS warm enough while hopping around but it these cold sitting still. Then the rabbit gentleman looked at big bell shaped end of the large horn -the end out of which, the umpity ump sound comes when someone blows on the mouth end. "I think if I hopped up and snuggled down inside the big end of the horn I would be said the rabbit. "I can wait inside the horn as well as No sooner said than done. Giving a strong spring, Uncle Wiggily jumped up, into the horn and settied down inside.

It was so warm and cozy there that soon the bunny uncle had fallen asleep. He had a funny dream. He dreamed he was home in his bungalow and that Nurse Jane and his wife were tossing him up and down in a pillow case to awaken him. Then, all of a sudden, Uncle Wiggily really awakened and he found himself being bounced up and 1, but in the horn, not in a pillow CASe, And there was 8 rumbily, umbily, umpity ump sound and them, all of a sudden there Was loud blast: "Toot! Toot! Toot!" and Uncl: Wiggily found himself flying thru the air. He had been blown right out of the horn where he had fallen asleep and he landed in a soft snow bank when he came down, so he wasn't hurt.

"But who blew me out of the horn?" asked the rabbit, looking around. "I did, but I didn't know you were in there, Uncle Wiggily!" said a loud voice and there stood big circus Elephant gentleman laughing. "I was out celebrating New Year's last night," said the Elephant. "I got the biggest horn I could, but blowing it made me dry so I left it here and went looking for a hole in the frozen brook SO I could get a drink. Now Notice.

The bidding which produced the five diamond call was: South one spade, West double, North pass, East three diamonds, South three spades or pass, West four diamonds, North pass, East five diamonds. South, having bid (at some tables overbid) his king-jack-ten spade suit received no assistance from North, properly selected the king of hearts instead of a spade for his initial lead. West played the trey, North the eight, and at Mrs. de Lorenzi's table, East held up the ace of hearts as a safety play to keep North from obtaining the lead; spade thru East's queen would have upset declarer's plans. The queen of hearts was led trick 2 and won by East.

This was followed by two rounds of trumps, (the jack taking the first, the ace the second) exhausting the adversaries. On the following trick dummy led a heart to eliminate hearts from declarer's two hands. After ruffing the heart East led a club to trick 6 and West finessed the queen. Then the ace of clubs was cashed and West's last club was led. On trick 8 the declarer had the choice of discarding a spade and placing the lead in the South hand, or ruffing and leading a spade.

She decided to trump, fearing the remote possibility of South's holding a small club and, being able to duck under the nine FINANCIAL MONEY TO LOAN. PAY THOSE BILLSI KEEP YOUR CREDIT RATING. played by North. East led a small spade to trick 9, South played the ten, hoping to force the ace, the declarer cleverly ducked, playing dummy's trey of spades. South was now in a hopeless position. He had to lead a spade and, no matter which he chose, the declarer took the two remaining spade tricks and after that was left with nothing but trumps in the East hand. So Mrs.

de Lorenzi made good a contract of five diamonds which was more than any of the other declarers could do. If South had held a club at the time of making his last lead, it would not have affected the situation because a club lead would have been ruffed by dummy, closed hand discarding a spade.
