UPI. Army's mule mascot was in no mood for hljlnks Saturday. Things weren't going any too well with the Cadet football team, which lost 20-6 to Harvard. During the halves, Cadet Sa-brino Martinez, 25, oi San Antonio, attempted to show the mascot off before the 59,000 spectators.

Martinez was riding behind the goal posts when the mule reared and tossed him to the sod. The Cadet was knocked unconscious, the unruly mule Just brayed. Martinez wasn't seriously hurt, however, and after treatment at the Dillon field house left Vlth the other cadets for West Point Hunters concentrate on waterfowl; Lytle says over 500,000 birds taken BY HOLLIS LIMPRECHT. Pheasant hunting ia over for another year, and the past season was a success from every angle. Most of the hunters bagged their limit and the birds had a fair chance of escape because of the heavy cover.

MINNESOTA: Garnaaa on a double reverse, picked up 4 yards around the Huaker right end. Daley, trying the other side of the Huaker line, picked up a yard. Minnesota was clipping on the play and set back IS yards to their own 26.

Preston and Schleich stopped Garnaas after a 4 yard advance. Gar naaa punted to Bradley who came back 4 yard! to the Nebraska 85. It was a 40 yard punt. NEBRASKA; Metheny, on an attempt at the Gopher right end, made 3 yards before he was brought down by three Minnesotans. On a reverse around the same side, Zlkmund was good for 6 yards.

Bradley slipped as be attempted to cut back and lost a yard. ball was on the Huaker 41. Bradley kicked a beauty that went out of bounds on the Gopher 7-yard Una. It was a 52 yard boot. MINNESOTA: Daley, on a delayed plunge thru the center picked up 1 yards, Sweiger.

found a hole in the same spot for 13 yards and a first down on the Gopher 27. Sweiger triad the same play for 3 yards. After faking a pass, Daley swept the Husker left end for 22 yards and a first down on the Nebraska 47. Zlkmund, the last Husker brought him down. The Hus-kers took out time.

Five minutes had gone of the On a reverse over the Husker left guard, Garnaas made 3 yards. Daley Jumped over the Nebraska right tackle position for 2 yards. Sweiger tried the same spot but got only 2 yards. Daley kicked over the goal for a touchback. Nebraska took over from Its own 20.

NEBRASKA: Fitch came up fast to throw Bradley for a 6 yard loss on an attempted run from punt formation. On a reverse, around the Gopher left end, Zlkmund could pick up only one yard. Bradley went back In to punt formation and kicked out of bounds on the Minnesota 48-yard line. It was a 37 yard kick. Hlggins replaced Plunkett for the Gophers.

MINNESOTA: Hlggins faked a pass and then went around the Huaker left end for 7 yards. Higgins took a forward pass from Daley and Jumped over his line for 4 yards and a first down on the Husker 41. Daley cracked the middle of the line for 4 yards. Sweiger took the ball from Daley on a reverse and made 5 yards to the Nebraska 31. Higgins found an opening around the Nebraska left end for 5 yards and a first down on the Nebraska 26: Bradley barely got his hands on Higgins' intended pass to Garnaas, but the Husker knocked It down on the 10-yard line.

Zikmund had Higgins' lqng pass in his hands but dropped it Blue came up fast and aided by Pieston, dropped Hlggins for a 3 yard loss. Bradley broke up Higgins' fourth down pass and Nebraska took over on its own 2s. Odson came in for Lechner at tackle for the Gophers. NEBRASKA: attempted to sweep the Gopher left end and was dumped for a 3 yard loss. Metheny fumbled the snap back from center.

He picked up the ball, but was thrown for a 7 yard loss before he got under way. Bradley kicked to Higgins who came back 7 yards to the Minnesota 47-yard line. It was a 41 yard kick. MINNESOTA: Thompson got past three blockers and threw Higgins for a 3 yard loss. Blue came up savagely and threw Higgins for a 6 yard loss.

Nebraska was offside on the play and drew a 5 yard penalty, however. Hern don held Daley for a 2 yard gain. Garnaas on a cleverly concealed re verse, picked up but 3 yards over the Husker right tackle. Higgins kicked out of bounds on the Nebraska 21-yard line. It was a 24 yard kick.

NEBRASKA: Paschka came In for Billman in the Gopher line. Bradley quick-kicked and the ball took a re verse bounce and went out of bounds on the Gopher 43-yard line as the quarter ended. SCORE: NEBRASKA 0, MINNE SOTA 0. Hiracher replaced Ringer at end for the Gophers. SECOND QUARTER.

On a wide end sweep, Hlggins got only 2 yards. Herndon and Thompson got him. Hlggins pass to Garnaas was good for 16 yards and a first down on the Husker 39. Hlggins passed to Daley, who caught the ball in the flat and slipped with no one around him. There was no gain on the play.

Sweiger fooled the Huskers and reverse and got 13 yards and a first down on the Nebraska 26. Zlkmund was hurt on the play and Nebraska took out time. Athey replaced Zlkmund. Hlggins passed to Garnaas and the play was good for a first down en the Nebraska 12. It was a 14 yard gain.

Sweiger's attempted end run and cutback was held to no gain by four Huskers. Hlggins tucked the ball under his arm and cut over leit tackle and end positions for a first down on tha Nebraska 1-yard line. He stumbled Just before he came to the end zone. Sweiger cracked the middle for a touchdown. Twelve min utes were left In the half.

SCORE: MINNESOTA 6, NEBRAS KA 0. Cooper replaced Metheny at quarter for Nebraska. With Hlggins holding Garnaas' kick was no good. Marvin Thompson came In fast to block the boot. SCORE: MINNESOTA 6, NEBRAS KA 0.

The Huskies, definitely superior but pressed from opening kickoff to final gun, scored a touchdown and added the extra tally tha opening quarter to take a lead that was threatened one but never topped.

California came back with a fourth period touchdown snatched from the aerial lanes but failed on the crucial kick that would hav tied the count. Whether the Bears had or had not converted the extra tally made no difference in tha final check up. Washington came back with a smashing thrust on the next series to net 64 yards on nine plays for another touchdown. It put them safely in the lead with only seconds to go and they choked off a desperate last stand passing attack by the Californiana thru a pass interception that gavej them the ball deep in the latter'a territory. Titans make only try good, Spartans bow Extra point is margin, 7 to 6 DETROIT.

UP). Two attack-minded football teams showed utter disregard for a muddy field Saturday as once-beaten Detroit capitalized on its sole scoring opportunity to defeat Marquette 7 to 6, before 16,541 chilled spectators. In a wide open battle that would have been creditable under perfect weather conditions, Detroit scored in the second period on Elmer "Tippy" Madarik's tenth touchdown pass of the season a 4 yard aerial to End Joe Genshelmer and Quarterback Arthur Link placekicked the extra point. Marquette, stalled five times Inside Detroit's 30 yard line roared vi yaras in ten plays In the closing minutes, Jimmy Richardson rtred a 19 yard payoff pass to, John Harrington, but Sophomore Charles Beyer, coming off the bench to try. for extra point, missed fire on a placement kick.

He found Harrington with a 36 yard shot to set up the touchdown toss that followed two plays later. Colorado Mines swamp Western State, 32-7 GOLDEN, Colo. (INS).

Tha Colorado Mines' running attack functioned perfectly Saturday as the Orediggers swamped Western State, 32 to 7, in a Little Five conference contest. Daley kicked oft to Athey who got the ball on his own 6-yard line and came back to the Husker 27. NEBRASKA: Blue took the ball from Metheny off the formation and the Husker fullback lost a yard on tne play. Metheny, standing deep, took a direct pass from center and whipped the ball to Bradley for a 6 yard gain. Bradley kicked into the wind and the oval sailed out of bounds on the Minnesota 41. Lauterbach re placed Sweiger for the Gophers.

MINNESOTA: Garnaas tried a reverse around the Husker left end and wound up with a 1 yard loss. Herndon caught Hlggins and the Gopher mite picked off only a yard. Bradley had Higgins' long pass In his arms but dropped it as he fell over backwards. It was fourth down and 10 to go. Higgins kicked to Bradley who came back 4 yards to the Husker 28-yard line.

It was a 39 yard boot. NEBRASKA: Athey on a reverse around the Gopher right end got 3 yards before he was hit down. Bradley faked a pass and then ran around the other side of the Gopher line for 3 yards. Bradley's kick was partially blocked by Wildung and the ball went out of bounds on the Nebraska 36. MINNESOTA: Hein and Anderson came in at the wing positions for Minnesota.

A flat pass, Hlggins to Daley lost yards. Metheny made the tackle. Higgins faked a reverse and hit the Husker left tackle for 6 yards. Schleich caught him. Higgins' long pass Intended for Hein was broken up by Metheny.

Lechner and Sweiger came back In the Minnesota llnup. HlKeins' kick sailed over tha roai line for a touchback. Nebraska took over on Its own 20. NEBRASKA: Bradley went over the Gopher left tackle for a 7 yard ad vance. Lytle was highly pleased, with the three weeks season opening in the middle of the week, thereby doing away with congestion of "Sunday hunters" and opening day eekers. It'll probably be the same next year, altho it's entirely up to the commission. Because most' of the hunters had to look hard for their birds, there were fewer violations of exceeding the limit this year.

So now it's concentration on ducks and geese, which are both becoming numerous with frosty weather. When the freezes hit Nebraska the birds will have to leave potholes for larger bodies of water and will be easier to find. OUTSIDE NEBRASKA. Pheasant hunting In Michigan Is the best in years, according to early reports, with heavy rains giving promise of good duck hunting. Inland ponds and potholes are full of water, making numerous landing spots.

New Hampshire's state legislature has authorized a special six day open season on elk, with a limit of 125 for the entire state. Each licensee may hunt only two days and bag one animal. For the first time In the state's history Maine had a statewide pheasant season this fall. The season runs 14 days, but the dally limit is only two birds, three below For the first time In 20 years Michigan hunters are permitted to hunt deer. Each party of four may take one deer, for "camp purposes" r-'iy.

A law may be passed allowshunting with bow and arrow. Heavy cover is causing the Texas game commission some trouble, but the commission Isn't too down hearted. It would like to trap turkeys for distribution over the state, but can't catch them. The department reports however, it is more interested in the supply than-the ease of trapping the birds, and is happy over the fine crop. Deer are so thick In Maine they are becoming a nuisance in some sectors, FEDERAL WORK.

The American Wildlife Institute has launched a nationwide radio conservation project over the air concerning the conservation oi nat ural resources. Phases covered are causes of disappeaance of many important species of wildlife, the decline of our fisheries, wildlife restoration efforts, value of wildlife for recreation, the mystery of migration, the story of wildlife protection and the part that wildlife has played generally in the history of America. BIRD BANDS. The Fish and Wildlife service has found an added use for the aluminum bird bands. Several thousand of the bands are being made available for the government's collection of old aluminum for airplane construction.

The bands will do a lot of flying before grounded for the last time. By using these bands the Service Is able to trace the time and place of branding, thus adding to its knowledge of bird migrations. The Nebhaska game department also use this method to study actions of native birds. Nearly 42,000 pheasants were banded this year, and a majority have not yet been turned in. The department is sending out a call for all bands to be returned, along with the location and date of the kill.

EATING GAME. Here is a hint for keeping birds fresh: Bleed the birds on killing to re move the heat quickly; wipe or wash the bodv cavity to eliminate digestive Juices; carry the birds head down and never bunch them closely nor put them in a tight box or sack. In warm weather birds should be dressed and left in the open air until dry, then put In a cool place. HERE AND THERE. MINNESOTA Milford upsets Seward eleven by 6-0 count Summers scores only touchdown MILFORD, Neb. Lynn Summers drove thru tackle for the only touchdown of the game Friday afternoon as Milford closed its 1041 football season by thumping Seward, 6 to 0. Setting up the pins for the marker by blocking a Seward kick in the third period, Summers made the score on his third successive plunging attempt Summers, Wergln and Ben Eicker looked best for the Milford eleven, winner of six of seven contests this season, 'Don Jones was tops for Seward. Cordova Trips Goehner, 18-7. CORDOVA, With La-Grande, Hansen and Blaine Lar-sep scoring touchdowns, Cordova's football squad defeated Goehner here Friday afternoon, 18 to 7.

Clarks Captures Final Game, 24-0. CLARKS, Neb. Oarka piled up a 24 to 0 victory over Stromsburg here Friday as Coach Burton's eleven closed the season with its sixth win. The Bombers' only losses were to Osceola and Genoa. During the season, Clarks scored 79 points to opponents' 40.

Parks President of Osceola Club. OSCEOLA, Neb. Quarterback Wes Parks has been named president of the Osceola club. Leon Carman is vice president and Dean Everitt is secretary. jcarks will win his fourth loot-ball letter this season.

Genoa Romps on Shelby. GENOA, Neb. Undefeated Ge noa-slapped a 46 to 0 setback on Shelby here Friday, using the second team half the game. K. Baker scored two touch downs, Don Baker one, and three came on' passes.

Herndon nailed him. Daley on a reverse, fooled the Huskers and raced 11 yards around the Husker left end for a first down on the Nebraska 42. Garnaaa failed to gain as he at tempted to sweep Thompson end. The Husker injured his bad leg on the play and Nebraska took out time. He was helped off the field and Lud wlck replaced him, Paschka came in the Gopher lineup.

Hlggins, getting a lateral from Garnaas got 7 yards around the Huaker left end. Garnaas, on a reverse around the same end broke loose, but he stepped out of the Husker 24 and It was first down for Minnesota at that point Daley cracked savagely over the Husker right side for a 6 yard advance. Daley tried the same play and was held to no gain by Abel and Herndon. Daley faked a reverse and went over the Husker left guard and tackle for 8' yard and a first down on the Nebraska 18. Daley picked up but 2 yards at the Identical spot.

Blue came up to stop Garnaas after a yard gain on a reverse. Daley hit the Husker left side for 8 yards. It was fourth down and four to go, Garnaas went back to try to field goal from the Husker IS. The kick, from a slight angle off to the left, wai good. SCORE: MINNESOTA NEBRAS KA 0.

There were less than four minutes to play. Thompson and Nyden came In the Husker lineup. Daley kicked off over the goal line for a touchback. Minnesota was. offside however, and Daley went back to kick over.

He kicked an easy boot and Hein got the ball for Minnesota as the Huskers waited for the kick to go out of bounds. Athey was injured on tha play and Zlkmund replaced him. Preston went back In to the lineup for Nyden. It was Minnesota's baU on the Nebraska 24. MINNESOTA) Garnaas picked up 2 yards, breaking over the Husker right Ida.

Blue Intercepted Blerhaua' pass and came back 4 yards to the Husker 17-yard line. NEBRASKA! Metheny's long pass Intended for Zikmund was nearly intercepted by two Gopher defense. Less than two minutes remained in the game. Metheny's pass to Bradley was good for yards to the Huaker 26. Minnesota took out Ume.

Sweiger, Anderson and Stralton entered the Go pher lineup. On quarterback sneak, Metheny got loose for yards and a first down on the Husker 84. Zlkmund fumbled a pass from Bradley on a statue of liberty play and Minnesota recovered. However, there was a penalty on the play, the Gophers being offside. Bradley fakad a ravers and then ran the Gopher left end but he was trapped and lost a yard.

Less than a minute remained. Bradley was trapped again when be couldn't find a received and lost yards. Bradley's pass to Zikmund was Incomplete. Zikmund fumbled a pass thrown behind the line by Bradley and Minnesota recovered on ths Husker 82-yard line. Hlggins cams back Into the Gopher lineup.

MINNESOTA! Daley got 8 yards as the game ended. FINAL SCORE) MINNESOTA NEBRASKA 0, straig Surprise by leading east --CHICAGO. UP). The Washington Redskins, rated little chance to retain their eastern division title at the start of the National football league season go after their sixth straight victory Sunday against the Brooklyn Dodgers. The Redskins, opened the season with a loss to the favored New York Giants, but since have reeled off five in a row, including a 3-0 decision over the Dodgers In a previous meeting.

Washington, however, is crippled for this test. Wilbur Moore, ace blocking back, has a broken collarbone, and Ed Justice, wingback, has a lame leg- Every game is a laft ditch stand for the Dodgers, who have lost three games out of seven played. They must whip Washington and defeat the Giants again to stay in the race. Bears Try Rams. The Chicago Bears, hobbled In incredible fashion last week by Green Bay, will try to untrack their famed offensive against Cleveland's hard-luck Rams.

Another dose of overconfidence might prove disastrous and give the western title to Green Bay, which is idle until Nov. 16. The Rams, with Dante Magnani and Chuck Seabright on the crippled list, face the Bears after losing six games in a row. The Giants, victims of Brooklyn and the Chicago Cards the past two weeks, will present a revamped lineup for the invasion of Bill Edwards' Detroit Lions. Coach Steve Owen moved Doug Older-shaw from guard to end and Bill Edwards, another to tackle.

Pittsburgh, suffering from coaching shifts as well as from lack of a passer invades Philadelphia still looking for a victory after seven straight losses. Mississippi State defeats, Auburn BIRMINGHAM, Ala. UP). Un beaten Mississippi State reasserted its challenge for the southeastern conference championship Saturday, whipping Auburn 14-7 before 1,000 chilled spectators. The once-tied Maroons, digging deep in their bag for tricks, came from behind with two swift touchdowns in the third period one of them a 75 yard gallop by speedy Blondy Black for their first win over Auburn since 1930.

Derailed freight car delays Brigham Young CHEYENNE, Wyo. CP). A Union Pacific railroad train carrying the Brigham Young university football team to Laramie for a game with the University of Wyoming was delayed for three hours late Saturday night by the derailment of a freight car near Echo, Utah, of ficials of the railroad said. The train reached Laramie at 11:30 a. m.

UP). The navy announced the promotion of Glenn C. Funk, Central City, to the rank of captain, effective last March 1. trophy at the Lincoln county Wildlife club Sunday, with a score of 48x50. It was her third victory.

Elsie Rasmussen of North Platte, with 49x50, won the class A trophy for the first time. Ted Apolius was skeet champion. Army fliers at Gowen field have been ordered to fly at 3,500 feet altitude over Lake Lowell in Idaho. It's a game refuge and the noise of the motors disturbes the birds. 1 The black Labador owned by Jerry Angle, York, is one of the few dual champions In the coun try.

It's both a bench and a field trial chamnion. and gave a neat exhibition fits field trial abilities at Lincoln's dog show last week, getting a big hand from the crowd. GOOSE SHOOT. A three-shot goose shoot with teams from Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado captained by gov ernors of the respective states Is being held at Art Store' Ducklore Lodge near Llsco from Saturday to Tuesday. The rules allow only three shots for a lcsral sun load and dogs are used to retrieve the birds.

It's a useful program besides provia ing entertainment, being a step toward conservation. Teams Include Gov. Nels Smith and Mav6r Ed Warren. Cheyenne of Wypmlng; Gov. Ralph Carr and Ed Hunter-of Denver, and Gov.

Metheny tossed a short pass to Bradley tor a 2 yard gain. It was fourth and 4 on the Gopher 32. Bradley broke thru for what looked to be a first down but fumbled when he was hit hard. Billman recovered for Minnesota on the Gopher 28. Bradley was injured on the play and the Huskers took time out.

Bradley remained in the game MINNESOTA: Bradley had a clear shot' at Hlggins' long pass but the ball dropped from his fingers on the Husker 35. Sweiger was tossed for a yard loss as Athey came up fast to make the tackle. Higgins faked a pass and then ran the Husker left end for a 10 yard gain. It was just short of a first down. Anderson came in for Fitch at end for the Gophers.

Higgins went back Into punt formation and kicked to Bradley who got the ball on his own 20-yard line and returned 9 yardsx NEBRASKA: Blue got the ball from Metheny and cracked over the Gopher right tackle for a yard. Bradley broke over the Gopher left tackle for 6 yards. He fumbled the ball but the play was dead before the ball got loose. Hlggins faked a kick and the ball went to Sweiger who was stopped after a 3 yard gain by Herndon. The Huskers took over with the wind at their backs for the final 16 minutes of play, second down, yards to go on their own SI. Bradley came back In the Husker lineup.
