The damage to cars, engines and roadway by these accidents, amounted to $2,817,294. The number of employes killed in coupling and uncoupling cars and engines was 85, as against 74 in the preceding quarter and 71 in the same quarter in 1904.

The injuries to employes from this cause numbered 8S. as against 817 in the preceding quarter and 832 for the same quarter of 1904. Itallnay Notes. T. R.

Lewis, traveling freight agent of the Seaboard Air line, was in the city yesterday. Joe Garrity. traveling passenger agent for the BuiKngton, was also a Lincoln visitor. It Is announced that the Northwestern has six weeks' supply of coal on hand if it did not secure another pound in that time. Officials deny that the company is so short of coal as has been reported.

Bills proposing to pension sons or daughters of soldiers will not be entertained except in cases where it is shown by satisfactory evidence that the proposed beneficiary hns been idiotic, deformed, or otherwise permanently helpless from a period antedating the age of sixteen years, and then only in case of destitution. In such cases the rate allowed shall not exceed $12 per month. "Rule 5.

Bills for increasing pensions which have been granted by the bureau under the act of June 27, 1890, at less than $12 per month will not be given consideration. The soldier must establish his title to and be granted the maximum rate provided by said act before aplying tx congress. The passenger depot and division headquarters building of the Burlington at Alliance was badly wrecked by lire and water yesterday afternoon. The fire started about 12:30, according to the best Information received here, and at 1 m. the wires went down and no. further information was received from there for an hour or two. When one wire was finally cut through it was tated that the building had been almost wrecked by fire and water and that some damago had been done to records and office furniture on the second where division headquarters are located.

The structure was a wooden building, probably 40x50, with an addition built on one side, making a shaped ground floor jplan, the addition being probably 40x30 feet and two stories. The waiting room, baggage room and ticket office were located on the second floor of the buildinpr. and there General Superintendent I'helan had his offices. Division Superintendent Birdsell, Trainmaster Harris and other officials liad offices as well, and the tele company also has the contract for their operation. About fifty engineers engaged by this firm will pass through Lincoln tonight.

This is known as the pioneer division of the engineering corps. J. G. White of the above named company was an instructor In the university of, Nebraska about twenty years ago- He married Miss Mullon, daughter of O. A.

Mullon. Following are some of the 'facts In relation to the Philippine railway system, compiled by a member of the company: The new system of railroads in the Philippines will cost J30.000.000. It is to be built by private American capital under concessions granted by the United States government. The system, which covers the Islands of Pa-nay, Negros and Oebu, will be built by a Xew York syndicate composed of Cornelius Vanderbilt, J. G.

White company, William Salomon and associates. It will comprise many hundred miles of track. The franchise is perpetual and the government guarantees interest at 4 per cent on 95 per cent of the bonds for 30 years. The engineering and construction will be done by J. O.

White company of New York and London. The railroad development Is the most Important project in the future plans of the government for promoting the welfare of the Philippines. It substantiates In an Important degree the promises made by the United States to the world for the regeneration of the Philippines. Kdward J. Beard, formerly principal assistant engineer of the Rock Island railroad, la chief engineer of the Philippine railroads for the syndicate.

He has figured prominently in the railroad development of the west. It is believed by railroad men that the selection of Air. Beard for the work is very fortunate. He combines in an unusual degree the qualities of generalship and genius for detail. A large number of the present corps are known to Mr.

Beard personally from association with them Irl railroad work in the west. Among the principal assistants is Lawrence E. Bennett, who is widely experienced in the management of en- 1 gineerlng enterprises in the far east. Mr. Bennett was advisor to Rnrarnni.
