2, Ferdinand, became the bride of Kenneth Haas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Haas of St. Anthony, on Saturday, May 13, at 9 a.m. Rev.

David Duesing officiated at the double ring ceremony in St. Ferdinand's Catholic church. The altar was decorated with gladioli and garden flowers. Following the ceremony the bride and bridegroom placed a vase of blue and white pom pons before the statue of the Blessed Mother, while the choir sang "On This Day, Beautiful The bride chose her sister, Mrs. Marilyn Bradley, South Bend, as matron of honor.

Mrs. Joan Welp, sister of the bride; Vadonia Kemper, cousin of the bride; Mrs. Marlene Hochgesang, cousin of the bridegroom; and little Miss Donna Kemper, a sister of the bride, also attended her. Wilfred Haas, St. Anthony, brother of the bridegroom, was best man.

Don Welp, Robert Hasenour and Phil Bradley were ushers. Mr. Haas presented his attendants with pearl tie tac and cuff link sets. Mr. Kemper gave his daughter in marriage.

She wore a bridal gown of deep lustered satin. The bodice featured a modified scoop neckline To Speak At K. Of C. Communion Breakfast Rev. Michael Keene, O.S.B., who has been teaching canon law and moral theology at St.

Meinrad Major Seminary since 1942, will be the speaker at next Sunday morning's father-and-son Communion breakfast in the K. of C. Home in Jasper. Members of Council 1584 and their sons will receive Communion at the 7:30 Mass, which will be followed by the breakfast. Father Michael, a native of Indianapolis, attended the Cathedral grade school in that city before to St.

Meinrad's, from which he was ordained on May 18, 1937. He later studied at St. Anselm's College in Rome and earned a baccalaureate in canon law. In 1942 he received a doctor's degree from the Catholic University of America. He was named prior of St.

Meinrad Archabbey in August of 1958. CLUB ACTIVITIES JOLLY HOMEMAKERS The fourth meeting of the Jolly Homemakers was held June 6. The meeting was called to order by the president, Sarah Kieffner, who also led the club pledge and pledge of allegiance. It was agreed that the following meetings will be held on Monday night. Refreshments were served by Carmen and Dorthea Mauntel.

The next meeting will be held June 12 at 7 p.m. in the Haysville school. Their headpieces were made of a single rose and leaves with face veil. They carried Amazon lilies centered with mauve net. The flower girl carried a basket of daisies. The bride presented her attendants with pearl necklace and earring sets and lace gloves. Mrs.

Kemper, mother of the bride, wore a lavender crepe knit sheath with lavender and black accessories. The mother of the bridegroom wore a beige eyelet sheath with bone accessories. Both wore orchid corsages. Breakfast was served at the home of the bridegroom, and dinner at the D. of I.

hall in Ferdinand. A reception was held later in the D. of I. hall. The couple left for a trip south, the bride traveling in a navy shantung sheath with navy and white accessories and an orchid corsage.

Since their return they are residing in Ferdinand. Ferdinand Students Do Well In Latin Exams Miss Patricia Maffenbeier, a Latin I student at St. Ferdinand High School in Ferdinand, earned a Special Gold Certificate of Excellence in the annual nation -wide Latin vocabulary examination sponsored recently by the Educational Stimuli of Superior, Wisconsin.

All high school Latin students across the nation had been invited to take part, and approximately 6,500 did so. All of the 73 Latin students at St. Ferdinand High took the exams. The results, which arrived recently, showed that 25 of the students were awarded National Honor Certificates, Forty-one of the 65 Latin I students and five of the eight Latin II students from Ferdinand High ranked above the national average. Special Gold Certificates, such as the one awarded to Patricia Maffenbeier, were given to those students having a percentile ranking of 98 or higher.

Patricia, a Latin I student, had a percentile ranking of 99. Other high scorers included the following Latin I students: Richard Bieker and Rita Weyer, 96; James Werne 94, Janet Barth and Gerald Schaefer 92; Kathleen Kuebler, Rita Laake, Ann Niehaus and Harold Schipp 90. The Latin teacher at Ferdinand is Father Fidelis Jent, O.S.B., who is leaving on June 10 for St. Louis U. where he will attend summer school.

Guidance will be his major as he works toward a master's degree in education. KATHY JANE BEGLE The six pound 11 ounce daughter born May 26 to Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Begle, of R. 2, Ferdinand, was named Kathy Jane.
