MEN IN SERVICE JONESVILLE ROBERT CARPENTER, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Carpenter, 222 Murphy St. has been promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant. Robert is a 1950 graduate of Jonesville High School and pined the USAF June 1950.

He has recently returned from a 4-year tour of duty in France and Germany. He is now stationed with his family at Selfridge Air Force Base. Mt. Clemens. GERALD L.

BORTON, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse T. Borton, 20 Cole Quincy, completed an eight-week general supply i course at the Army Ordnance I Center and School. Aberdeen i Proving Ground.

1. Reading, is serving aboard the repair ship USS Amphion, operating out of Norfolk. Va. Court To Sentence In Manslaughter Case GRAND RAPIDS Anderson, 24. was to appear in Circuit Court for sentencing today following his conviction on a manslaughter charge in a fatal knifing here last Sept.

18. Judge John H. VanderVVal handed down the manslaughter ruling Thursday to complete a three-day hearing to determine the degree of guilt. He said he found no evidence of premeditation. The offense is punishable by a maximum of 15 years in prison.
