They are probably the most true to life portraits of any living monarch. But how different are the photo-1 graphic records in other distinguished quarters. There are thousands of dif. ferent portraits in existence of the kaiser. He is the most photographed royalty in.

In her young days, waa a magnificent beauty.

She never consented to pose for any portrait after she was forty years old. Up to the time of her death she still continued to-; give away a portrait of herself representing a handsome lady, in no way like the broken, haggard old woman she became In later 'years. The most conceited royalties are to be found amongst the young princesses. One well-known royal personage, whose portrait appeared recently In the Academy, went to an Immense amount of trouble to make her picture a success. She arranged that a handsome model of eighteen years should be engaged, and the tatter's smooth neck and shapely shoulders be painted Into the portrait In place of her own unattractive neck.
